Was just sitting and reflecting on my mates Crooza and Jack, and thought I should celebrate them as I miss them heaps as you do.
Will never be able to replace them, but Billy and Tyson are good fun but not my dogs.
Any way show us your Pooch and a bit about them
Pic is of Crooza and Jack in their prime

This is my pup. Pure bred bluey. We got him for free as he is partially def ( I think he puts it on lol) and the breeder/ show person couldn't use him although he could be a great breeder as he is a perfect example.

Oh, almost forgot to include a piccy of Chewy.
He is Head of Camp Security and Mormon Liason.
He likes long walks on the beach, chasing tennis balls and scaring the bejesus out of strangers

This is our wee girl Lizzie. She's a rescue dog. Part staffy, bluey, jack Russell and dachshund apparently

This is from her puppy class graduation. She the size of the jack Russell but the temperament of the staffy. Looks after our daughter like a good dog should to a 2 year old.

My two...Buster and Maggie...

Don't let size fool you, they are absolute greased lightning if provoked. Buster the male gave a rottie 42 stitches due to the prick of an owner not having his dog leashed. Buster ended up with a broken front paw but got off lightly. Owner of rottie footed my $4000 vet bill via court order.

Thanks 93! I was always a white Alsatian person up until I met the ex. My old dachshund passed away at 19 years old. Long living pets and just have to feed them properly to avoid back and digestive issues. You can't have one either as they go bonkers alone...digging, howling and chewing shite up.

Glad yours graduated!

The hardest thing for me to do was put my old border collie down. She had a cancer called sarcoma that produces it own cancerous cells and sends it out through her whole body. By the time we found out Tess had a soccer ball sized tumour off her spleen. For a 20 kg dog it was Friggen huge. But we had 10 fantastic years from her and when she went 9 months later our little girl came along

I know I don't know how I'll go when the time comes but looking like only weeks topsIt is a difficult thing to do mate, but you are doing the best thing for the dog, no point letting them suffer for no need.

Perhaps we should do the same with humans when they have illnesses like terminal cancer,I dunno.

Anyway, here is my 12 year old Weimaraner, goit him as the owner did not want him after only nine months old, he is and has been a bloody great dog...........

42641That is the way get got them, we didn't order them that way, those and one other RESCUED boxer, Buster, (pictured with docked ears), who has passed, had docked tails. Buster came to us sick and we nursed him for 9 months until it was too hard on him. Great personality and that is when we decided to take other unwanted boxers.

She has a few really dark spots ( almost black ) on her back and a few on her ears and heaps on her belly.

Here is a few more of her.

If you look at the ear that is folded over that is what they look like.

The car just loves teasing her knowing she can't get him last night they were apparently trying to attack each other through the glass.

The Rep I get my welding supplies from is terrified every time he comes to my place , always had to put the dogs inside and lock the door.
Seems when he was little, in the UK two german sheppards chased and attacked him, nothing too brutal but enough for a 50yo man to cringe in his boots.
He is having therapy with little steps taken will take a long time I fear

Sounds like Amy's Blue Heeler. Always has a stick in it's mouth... can get annoying haha she will drop the stick on your foot and if you move it away she will pick it up and drop it on your foot again. And it's not like she does it every now and then, but every time you are near here. Like EVERY time.

I don't have dogs anymore :( my old girl (Elly) lives with my mother because 2yrs ago she was diagnosed with diabetes and needs to be monitored & given her insulin injections twice daily (at same time) which was mission impossible for me when I was 100% on my own with the kids. My boys passed away far too early in life - Edward was 4 & Diesel was also around that age too (father & son). Edward got into a fight with my ex husbands Siberian Husky and lost, some Ahole shot Diesel with an air gun ... 4hrs of surgery & $3k later he died on operating table as they were stitching him up :(

I think my wife has already named him Taz.
I wanted to name him chewy (short for chewbarka because no doubt he will chew and bark)

We were going to call our Shepard x malamute chewy as you were but know someone with that name so we just called him wookie see the resemblance

Winnie I always wanted a staffy too as I grew up with a couple. But the Ms convinced me to get a border collie and honestly I wouldn't get any other dog now i don't think.
I have had 2 border collies and both have been super smart and good dogs. They just are super energetic but plenty of walks or plays and they are fine

This is our 5 Month old Pure bred German Sheppard Metti

I love Sheppards, and used to own one. Unfortunately we got him at 10 months old, and for what ever reason, used to hate women and kids. Sadly, we had to put him down because he bit my nephew - not bad, but enough to say good bye. His name was Mallee. I'd love to own another one, but I'll openly admit I haven't got time to take the time and care an animal needs.

Gotta be firm and maybe a little heavy handed with shepards they are smart and will challenge authority. My wookie is German Shepard x alaskan malamute he turned out well and loves kids.
We took on an abused blue healer and he bit everyone of us untill we put him in his place showed him love and gave him a sense of belonging into a pack now my sisters 18month and 4 year old kids climb all over him and he loves it. It took time and even though you can never trust any animal especially humans our dogs IMHO are very close to it

@ Fletch you need to be firm with big dogs as they will try and dominate you early,
Ive had big dogs all my life and love em. Push your dog to the ground and dont let it up ,
this will tell it that you are the dominant one. do this for a few months on and off
and after time it will know you are the boss, and never take no for an answer.
They are one of the smarter breeds going around

This is my 10yo wheaten border collie "Goose" (from top gun) and Samii the Dalmatian who's now 2yo. Goose is getting on now so no more acrobatics but he used to be able to catch a ball from almost any angle.
Goose was born in my back yard while we were looking after his parents due to their owners having a bike accident so he's been next to me from day one.

We enjoyed spoiling you in the last few weeks of your life, and you enriched ours.

Always had hunting dogs (staghounds and foxies) prior to this one, he originally came from an abused background. We assume he was about 16 years old and would have had some stories to tell. Took a long time to gain our trust but after that he became a loyal and faithfull companion.

To say I'm blown away by the response to my post is an understatement, thanks everyone, really appreciated.

Who would have thought the flea bitten little mongrel we bought home would have such an impact. We only took him on as we felt sorry for him and let the grand-kids name him.
He used to cower when you looked at him or he heard a loud voice, spent the first couple of weeks attempting to escape but gradually gained our trust. Turned into a great little mate and watch dog.
He developed a heart condition in the last year and his long daily walks turned from vigorous treks to short slow strolls around the neighborhood, he never eased up on marking every available pole though. The last couple of months he had a rapid weight loss and that turned out to be diabetes and liver problems. He spent the last few weeks relaxing on the couch or my knee but was always alert if anyone came to the door.
We agreed that we were not going to prolong his life for our benefit, he peacefully died in my arms at the vets.

He will be over the rainbow bridge ( google it if you don't know) kicking back and pissing on every pole/tree out there. He play with my AJ that we had put down earlier in this thread

You know puppy school is about training the owner more than the dog right? We went right though obedience training for my last dog AJ and it is honestly more about what we learnt and we have now applied this to our new pup

He does some awesome tricks, one day when i bring him to a patrol meet I'll show you

Of course. We have been for 1 week and it's really good help

It is a difficult thing to do mate, but you are doing the best thing for the dog, no point letting them suffer for no need.

Perhaps we should do the same with humans when they have illnesses like terminal cancer,I dunno.

Anyway, here is my 12 year old Weimaraner, goit him as the owner did not want him after only nine months old, he is and has been a bloody great dog...........

He was a kelpie and I have told you the story at least twice now and I really can't be bothered going through it again.
Long story short he has been trained and is now working on a cattle station where he belongs.

I can fully relate, when mine was a pup he had teeth like needles, trust me I still bare the marks on my arms and that was 3 years ago but I wouldn't have it any other way as i know we were only playing albeit roughly, the only way staffy's know how. :)

53939my bestest mate Rango. he's a Smithy . runs around all the time until he overheats then he jumps in the lake or the pool or both. if I take the dirt bike out he will try to follow me for the first 3 km at 60kph !! then he backs off to 20kph and keeps going. He loves chasing roos, he doesn't bite them just chases them. He is truly the toughest dog I have ever owned.
The other dog is a kelpie x border collie gone very wrong. I am sure she knows where the magic mushies are down the back of the property cos she is always in her own little world in slow motion. She loves Rango though and they make a good pair strangely enough.

Is a Smithy like a Roan
Mate had a Roan that went hard all day long

bowerbird
15th January 2015, 10:34 AM
never heard of a Roan? the farmer where we got him down at Kyogle said they were stumpy tail smithfields.
Rango sometimes he astounds me, I drove down the driveway once in the troll and every time I come home the two of them play wrestle, ( don't know why but they do) and one time Xena the kelpie x ran into Rango while I was coming down the drive, his back leg went under the 33 inch Muddy , he laid there crying, I had a look and felt the leg bones - no breaks. 10mins later he was chasing a ball as if nothing had happened. Once I pulled a paralysis tick of him it was the size of a 5 cent piece. I think in fact it was ready to drop off. all that happened was he was a bit slower for the rest of the week. next week back into it. He runs through barbwire fences at full clip- don't know how his nuts are still attached.

threedogs
15th January 2015, 10:39 AM
A Roan to me looks like Blue heelerish smaller but a different breed. bloody hardy as all get out.
My mates would swim across the Murray to fetch a tennis ball time after time we got tired looking
The Roan would not give up

bowerbird
15th January 2015, 10:47 AM
sounds like him alright, but he is actually quite a bit taller than a blue healer, my mates bluey takes him up to the shoulder. and there is another bluey nearby , also quite a bit shorter. he must have some of this Roan in him. I will google it.

These are our two Beagles; Harvey and Lulu. Both came from AQIS, Harvey failed (good looking dog but dumb as a box of hammers) and Lulu just decided she did not want to work anymore.

Like some here, I wasn't allowed pets growing up so it's only been since an adult that I've had them.

In some kind of order:

When they were a lot younger - our son is now 23 so this would have been about seven years ago or so:

The guy around the corner from us got some amazing years from his beagle?Yeah, they can live to 15 or so. The downside to these guys is / was that because they are AQIS trained, you can't take them off lead - they just keep on a going! So unlike other pooches that stick to you when off lead, theses guys get a scent and they're off and racing.

Sadly a 7 week old baby has been attacked by the family Alaskan Malamute.
Just listening to some lady say this breed is in the top 5 dangerous dogs.
The infant is ok, Problem I have is that the family are newly wed and first
child. The dog looked well loved [over weight] i think the family should have
introduced the new baby to the dog a bit better, When my sons were small we had no problems
with the dogs, and I've always had big dogs. Sadly this family dog may be put down.
Educate the ppl, the dog doesnt know better

A dog that attacks a 7 week old baby is not innocent.

Here's two of my crew (although one of them isn't really a dog), and I should probably mention something about being careful with food additives...

They're gentle giants most of the time. Although I wouldn't trust them if you were to jump the fence. Haha. Their pure size can be intimidating to some.

Hanging out bigtime for another dog, toss up between a Staffy or a jack russell.
Might even go and look at rescue dogs as well, plus I have a soft spot for
Dobermans, very placid dogs IMO,, any ideas Dobbie too big to travel
