you can get leds also 3d, do a search davo there was a thread possibly 2 with pics showing the diffrence, they looked good but had a small fan on the heatsink and looked like it would be more suited to onroad rather then mud and dirt.

edit: here is one link but its an old one there is a more recent one with more pics http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forums/showthread.php?6164-LED-Headlight-s-VS-Fletcha-s-HID-s&highlight=lowbeam

What are they 68 smd led H4 globes not sure they are legal , My whole car is led and I have 68smd led front parkers.
and they are bright as at night, so thinking inside a headlight it would be brighter again,
but like I said pretty sure they are not legal

The only LED's that are worth using are "speaker" branded lights but these are very expensive anywhere from 800-1200 a pair and they are a full replacement light. The ones pictured are useless and you would better of running some +120's in halogen or if you do want to upgrade have a serious look at micks hid retrofits.

The ones pictured on the jeep above are speaker led lights.

The thread megatexture mentioned may have been my thread, the led lights with the heatsink and fan. Anyway, I'm running these LEDs and have been for some time now and I love them! The little fans do hum abit and is noticeable at idle, but it isn't bad. High beams aren't the best, but that's what led bars and spot lights are for anyway.

The multi SMD LED H4 pattern are great in parkers, interior etc but absolute rubbish in main beams

The hi power Cree et al LED H4 pattern are available in 25 to 40 odd watts (maybe more).
They put out similar to approx 25% more lumens to the +100 incandescent 55/60 watt bulbs
The main problem is utilising that extra light from the LED's as efficiently as possible because the factory reflectors aren't formed for the light source so you can get some odd patterns

The rolls royce are the full LED lights as Parksy mentions but I have never seen one in the flesh

IMHO it is hard to go past the Philips or Narva + 100 to +120's
They are about 1/2 the price of 40 watt LED H4, slightly less lumens, use a bit more power but throw a nice light with consistent beam pattern

Spotted these Speakers on a customer's KW. Eerie looking lights...

what about LED spotties like these http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GREAT-WHITES-18-LED-12V-DRIVING-SPOT-LIGHT-LAMP-KIT-GWR5181-NARVA-WIRING-/300928400755?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4610bafd73

Great Whites will never replace a pair of 100 watt HID 6000K driving lights.
The trouble with the high wattage globes is the heat they produce,
I was very happy with my Phillips 90--110 globes, but as most cars these days the headlights are plastic
and heat and plastic don't go together. Havent come across a LED high beam globe yet that will allow you to safely travel at 100 kph

so you recon HID are still the way to go ?

Depends...
Personally I hate the HID warm up time so I use LED's.
On one truck I have a 180 watt LED bar low on the bullbar and a 240 watt LED bar on the roof rack.
The 240 watt bar replaced a pair of 70 Watt HID Roo Lites
The bar is heaps better IMHO but I don't cruise over 100 ish in the WA bush often slower esp if I am towing.

HID puts ut more lumens per watt than LED but as I have stated elsewhere Lumens is a pretty crap way to evaluate lighting.
Lux is more valid. It is kinda like Horsepower and Torque they are related in a way but mean different things
Any photographer or anyone who deals in lighting sports grounds or workshops will always work in Lux which is a measurement of how well an object is lit to the human eye.

Yes, the HID's threw a longer beam but out to the sides was blacker than a bats butt.
I've never hit a critter yet that was standing on the road, they have all come form the side.

I still have HID lights but not currently fitted to any of my vehicles simply because where and how I drive I find the LEDs superior.
Happy to admit that I may well be in a minority tho.

The +100, +110 and +120 globes these days don't actually increase the wattage. They use a different gas inside the globe that allows more light to me produced. Also the plastic is most headlights is more than up to the task as that's what it's designed for. I have had a set of lights in the oven to seperate to the point the glass is untouchable and the plastic is fine.

Here is a good comparison between led head lights (not speaker items) and hid projectors.

I upgraded my IPF 800's with 70W 4300k HID's. While they are a crap load better than before, I would think their is really only two ways to really go about it....

To buy new HID spotties that were designed to accomodate HID's
Buy LED spotties.

If I could afford it I would go down the number 2 path...
