3 inch exhaust

I'm planning on installing a brand new 3 inch exhaust system to my 3.0 litre GU wagon, I plan to buy a straight through with cat and muffler deleted, what are peoples thoughts will this improve performance and will it throw any fault errors resulting in a engine check light?
