Hi All,
has been a long time between posts for me, so much so I almost re-introduced myself! I have a 2003 wagon with the grenade in it and it has developed a shudder when pulling up at lights or stop signs. I feels like it is coming from the gearbox/clutch and does it with my foot on or off the clutch, it also makes an almost rattle like sound but only when almost stopped. . . . .I was thinking maybe the dreaded dual mass flywheel may be on it's way out as the clutch is pretty new and it doesn't tow anything? Anyone have anything similar happen?
Thanks in advance.
Andrew

Had the exact issue with our 2000 gu work car and unfortunately it was the flywheel. Hopefully others can give alternative things to check?

Maybe Check all external drive in first?
Uni joints especially.

From experience with my mates one that sounds like the flywheel mate... they are crap!!!!

My mate was having same issues then while he was pulling onto the freeway he went for a gear change and suddenly nothing..... on a tow truck for him..

Dont take advice from the internet in this case though, drop into a specialist and get some advice as you dont want to get left stranded and it may be something simple??

The clutch was replaced under warranty when I purchased the vehicle (secondhand) along with the radiator, so I don't know if they touched the flywheel or not. It has only done 165k and not much of it in 4WD, but I am heading to Shark Bay at the end of April and I don't want to have to tow it home from there I can tell you!
I might drop it off at the mechanic and let them have a look at it, it's odd though cause it only does it on the odd occasion, I would have thought that if there was something wrong with the flywheel it would be there all the time. . . . I'll post the findings when I have it checked out.
Cheers

Mmmm sounds like someone has been dodgy they should have changed the flywheel when they done the clutch, worse still some moron probably tried to machine it could have a claim there 1800 035 035 Nissan head office ask them what should happen when replacing a clutch and what shouldn't happen. ie machine dual mass

I don't think there will be any chance of a claim anywhere, I have had the vehicle for 2 years now and it has been very reliable. As for the thing being machined, the mob I purchased it through would, like most places I have ever returned things to for a claim, do the very least to get the car back on the road. I know they replaced the clutch at least, because I watched it go under the vehicle. . . . I should have stuck my head under there and looked at the flywheel too, but I didn't know there were issues with the dual mass numbers until I joined the forum. :(

Well, had the flywheel replaced today, it was just about to fail. . . . you could move the plates by hand and the fluid that is supposed to be inside it was spayed all around the inside of the bell housing, I am surprised the clutch was working at all! It now has a solid flywheel and heavy duty clutch in it, not as quiet as it was, has a bit of noise transmitting through the box, but at least it should last a while. One thing that was noticed by the mechanic was that the flywheel had already been replaced once before. . . . it had 4-3-2010 stamped on it, and I purchased it in September 2011, I had the clutch done but there was no mention of the flywheel when that was done.

Wetty,

if the flywheel was replaced, then you have definitely had a bad run, as they normally last a bit longer than three years

least you are good to go now
