hey all, just after some advise, was driving my gu3 zd30 the other day and engine warning light came on, and lost power, im guessing limp mode. took it to a diesel specialist and had it scanned, it is coming up with code 77. he has told me that my pump is stuffed and i need to buy a new one. i have tried to do a little research on the code before forking out for a new pump but cant seem to find much on code 77, except some references to 0707. are they the same code? or does anyone now what code 77 is exactly? would like to make sure it is the fuel pump before getting it reconditioned. when i first got the code a mechanic mentioned that it may be a blocked fuel filter, so had that replaced and fault still appears. when i first start the car it doesn't show code and seems to have full power for about 5 seconds, then engine light appears and power loss. cheers, Geoff

Try disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours
to reset the computer ecu

can't find it in ATM but I'll keep looking as I saw some error codes in it
have you changed your fuel filter lately, do you have pressure @ the black primer button

have you cleaned the MAF sensor? also check to make sure the catalytic convertor hasn't collapsed

i was in town when the engine light first came on so i took it straight to a mechanics and had it scanned, he told me it was coming up as pump failure but didn't tell me a code number. he scanned it from under steering wheel inside car. i was not charged for this scan. first thing i tried was getting a new fuel filter fitted. mechanic told me the old filter was not dirty or blocked. i then took my car home which was approximately 50km drive. drove fine down the highway but i only did around 90kmph. engine did not get hot and seemed to drive normally except lacking power and engine light was on. i then booked it into a diesel specialist as they said they could connect there scanner to the pump it self to find out what is going on. he gave me a receipt with code 77 (start-of-injection control signal improbable) and told me i need a new pump. but when i double checked with him if it was definitely the problem he didn't seem 100% sure. i tried to do a little research on the code before trying to get my pump reconditioned to make sure it was definitely the cause as i was quoted from $4500 to $5500 to have it done. which i cant currently afford. and dont seem to be able to find code 77. unless it is code 0707 and just comes up as code 77 because it is read as 2 numbers 07 07 from the scanner.

i cleaned the maf sensor approximately 2 months ago. and did some research on this forum and followed the steps to test it with multi meter and seemed to be working correctly.

fuel primer: i can pump the primer approx 3 or 4 times then it goes firm

Thanks for all your replies, much appreciated :)

how do i check the cat? just check the flow from the rear of the car? cheersyes have it running and get someone to give it a rev to see if its exhausting properly, also when exhaust is totally cool tap the system with your hand to see if there are any unusual rattles, reason I mention this, a mate had complete loss of power on his nissan and rattling real bad,a diesel mechanic told him the timing chain was buggered and had slipped, I tell ya I laughed my guts out, anyway i'm a petrol mechanic and quickly found the issue, he was so wrapped, as the mechanic had quoted $8000 to fix the engine,my mate had it fixed at the exhaust joint for a mere $500 the next day, and just out of spite we pulled into the garage and the mechanic came out with a dumb look on his face, and I yelled at him $500 is a small price compared to your $8000 quote I said your not a mechanics arse LOL

Having similar issue again actually had the injector pump blow up spent $5,000 was fine for about 5months and now it’s starting again here’s what l have found on code 77 it is P0077 Intake Valve Control Solenoid Circuit High B1

On vehicles equipped with variable valve timing (VVT), the Engine Control Module / Powertrain Control Module (ECM/PCM) controls the camshaft position by regulating the engine oil through the control solenoid to change the position of the camshaft. The control solenoid is commanded using a Pulse Width Modulated signal (PWM) from the ECM/PCM. The ECM/PCM monitors this signal and if the voltage is above specification, it will set this trouble code and illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL).

Bank 1 refers to the side of the engine with cylinder #1 - be sure to verify according to manufacturers specifications. The intake valve control solenoid is usually located on the intake manifold side of the cylinder head. This code is similar to codes P0075 and P0076. This code may also be accompanied by P0026.

Symptoms

Symptoms may include:
•Check engine light illuminated (Malfunction indicator lamp)
•Vehicle may suffer from poor acceleration and decreased fuel economy.
Potential causes of a P0077 diagnostic trouble code may include:
•Wire harness poor connections or disconnected
•Control solenoid open circuit
•Short to power
•Faulty ECM

hey mate have you tried flushing the fuel filter? there is a nipple on the bottom, engine light sometimes indicates a dirty filter
