Hey guys, ive been looking at few GU patrols, are most GU patrols part time 4wd? are majority of them full time 4wd?

Im well aware of the difference of full vs part time 4x4, but with regards to the models, which ones came part-time 4wd and full time 4wd, are most GU 3.0 turbo diesel full timer 4x4?

cheers

As far as I am aware I think all the patrols are part time 4x4, only the cruizers are full time, but I could be corrected on that.

I'm with krbrooking, fairly certain (99.9999%) that all GU's are part time 4wd, never heard of any full time ones. Thinking about it more that would be a whole new ball game as you'd need a centre diff with it's own locker (if it was going to be any good offroad).

Only Cruisers and Pajeros have full time 4wd available, and Landys of course.

All except maybe the y62 (ugly bastard new model) are part time. ST models have auto locking hubs

I've been told I can 4x4 with the hubs in auto but
when the going gets tougher turn the hubs to the lock position
I'm going to a shop this morning I'll ask
Just looked at Wikipedia and they still make the GQ Patrol
That would be an awesome pick up a brand new 4.2 GQ

ALL Y61,Y60 and earlier (GU & GQ, etc) are part time 4 WD.
Transfer case sends drive to front wheels without a centre diff.

The new Y62 is Full time 4WD.
Its actually possible to turn the Y62 back into a 2WD if you can identify the right fuse to pull. And no, I don't know which fuse it is.

But I know a man who does, if you're really interested ;)

Oz is different to UAE, but the general opinion here is that "it requires skill to drive a Y60/61 through the dunes, but any twat can do it in a Y62"

The modifiers have developed an part time 4wd kit for the 80series Toyota to bypass the full time 4ad system that was heavy on the driveline and expensive at the fuel pump. They come with a. Centre Difflock as a "Fulltime 4wd 80series Toyota" will be a 1 wheel drive without it!!!!

So the Y62 is the better choice for dunes then ?

Just read on Wikipedia that the Y60 is still being made for the UN.
Imagine owning a brand new TD 4.2 GQ
On the 80s after fitting the free wheel kit you press the centre diff lock button making the 80 virtually a front wheel drive Or some thing like that
been years since the 80 was a common model

Maybe, it's prone to rear bumper damage (poor design acts as a sand scoop) and it can get crested due to less articulation when crossing dunes.
Personally I prefer the 4.8 in the dunes, but the power of the Y62 is amazing.

Dont think they use many diesels in the sand pit.

I looked at the Y62 prior to getting a Y61.....and for that reason. That & the bloke reckoned from Frankston to Etihad stadium & back used 1/2 a tank of juice
