Hi there im Justin and I have a 1995 Nissan GQ Patrol 4.2 diesel and I am currently looking at putting a turbo on to it just to give me more HP as it is a bit slow. I have been told to get a Garrett as I am looking for it to spool up between 1000-2000rpm and I'm just not sure what Garrett to get as I am not familiar with the product. I have found Ebay turbos which seem to be half the price but will the do the same job? if anyone has any experience please tell! I have also found a standard Garrett T28 turbo off a S14 Silvia and is has got welded actuators to hold the boost and was wondering whether it would be big enough for my Patrol or will it run out of puff real early. I think it is a GT2860R.
These are some of the turbos I have found.

GT2860 is a great match for the TD42. Are you keeping standard fuel pump?

Yeah I hope so. So that T28 Turbo will work perfectly?

I think you would be better off with a DTS kit. It is a good kit you wont be disapointed.

So that T28 turbo in the link above will run fine and boost fine as well? and is having the actuators welded good at all for the turbo?

A welded wastegate means you loose all control of boost pressures and it will boost till it cant boost no more. Its not a good thing.

Ahhhh right thought it wouldn't be too good. Cheers Dales300exc.

From memory 3200. That includes turbo, airbox, manifold, crossover pipe oil and water lines and warranty.
Alot of excess heat can be caused by the perminatly closed waste gate, i would stay clear. A mate has a t28 or something very small. It is too small for the td42 it spools in the range you want but it does generate a bit of heat
Personally I like a good mid range tune as it is on song at highway speeds for over taking, I had the dts kit years ago at 13psi on a stock pump and it did the job very well.

Is a T25 a bit to old as well?

Oh sounds like the DTS is pretty good. Do you know what turbo its running? And i thought the T28 might have been a bit too small as well and I didn't like how it was welded at all!

safari kits are also ok and will do what you want.
The old ones ran a bigger rear housing than the newer ones.
I ran both, both were good, the .63 rear housing was out of puff by 3500, and wouldnt make more than 14psi. But it did it pretty early.
the .82 I had first had a cracked wastegate seat, so was tough to compare
I know have a TD05 18g, and it too is very goood, but with the right pump...
