Just a quick pic of my new GU. It is in Brisbane and I am yet to see it as I won't visit home until April.
It's a 99 4.2t Manual
I do have other pictures but they were from the original carsales ad that I bought the car from.
Any idea if i can post those pics?
Also, is this a series 1?

Yes its a series one, very clean unit you have there,
Some ppl here put the series 3 tail lights in then wire up the dummy lights

Are the originals the ones that people keep saying are shockingly bad? Or do they just swap them for aesthetic reasons?

They don't have globes or globe holders, you can fit some serious reverse globes in the series 3 tail light.
EG I have 4 x 120 smd led , 2 in each side love it.

Without lamp holders does that mean that you need to fit ones individually? Do the brake lights work also or will that leave just the bumper lights working?

welcome to the forum mate, best you do a search top right and just search tailights and it will bring up all the threads on the tailight conversions, you can buy them and extend the wiring or you can do it cheaper by drilling a hole in your existing tailight and fitting globes.
