Looking for some input..I am considering moving my handbrake forward to be up beside my gear stick so that I can fit a slimmer cubby box and have more space for aftermarket seats similar to the Defender. Anyone got any thoughts on this or have heard of anyone doing it before I assume its not really a massive job apart from welding it onto the body and extending the cable? I have attached a picture of the Defender which has it in the position I'd like to move mine to

Interesting. Well I think being up there to me would be a pain as I am quite tall..
But I think the hardest bit will be
A- moving brackets
B- re routing the cable as atm Its quite short
And C- making a boot for it..
But hay give it a go I say..

I'm thinking of just welding the bracket further forward which would solve the 1st problem as for rerouting the cable I think maybe just replacing the existing one with a slightly longer one. What do you mean by a boot for it?

Yea a cover of some sort of cover for it as the glove box provides it atm..

Oh yeah I think I would just buy a gaiter for it I think to cover it and possibly just have the cable come out in the same position as it is at the moment and run it under the carpet to the new position

Yea that'll work I think.
We'll keep us updated if you do go ahead with it..

some models came with a sway bar disconnect (cable actuated)under the dash just run your hand break cabel to one of those like in many utes. it would not be hard to adapt that to a hand brake at all

Just get an underdash handbreak assembly (such as in early Hilux models) and mount it under your dash. All the hard work is already done.

Funny you should mention that because I noticed another lever on the left hand side of my dash low down that I don't know what its for. Is it possible that is what it could be?

No that's the rear stabilizer bar release.
It allows one end of the sway bar to release from the body and float, allowing the rear diff to move independently from the bbody..
Pull it and dash light will come on..

all very well and good if you dont use your swaybar disconnect. Not sure if you are aware of this but the handbrake braking system is actually on the front end of the rear drive shaft (well it is on my TD42 & TD42 anyway) so i reckon it would be easier just to move your handbrake forward on the drive tunnel rather than have to re-route the handbrake cable....... happy to be corrected if I'm not right because I am slightly mechanically impaired

Haha that makes 2 of us that are mechanically impaired then! So do you think that moving it forward and just getting a longer cable for it would be the solution?

In my mind it would appear to be the easiest solution but whether it's the best solution, I wouldn't like to guess mate
