Set off last weekend goin an gettin some quotes for lockers for the ute.

First stop was ARB at Coopers Plains in Brisvagas. Every time I come into this place I feel like I am gettin reamed dunno it's just a feelin. Well anyway get served at the counter an this bloke hands me over enough litrature to fill a brickies wheel barra while sortin out a quote. After bashin some keys on a computor for half an hour he hands me a quote sayin it's goin to set me back some $4304.35 to supply an fit lockers front an rear with compressor an wiring to fit. Went to some effort to let me know how the air fittins on the diffs are now protected with some sort of welded lug on the diff and also the air fittings are now a lot stronger. Also tells me if I decide on ARB he will come up with a lot better price.

Well off I go across the road to TJM to see what prices they will give to fit their Pro Lockers not much muckin arround an they give me a quote of some 3946.07 to supply an fit lockers an compressor and associated wiring also get new carrier bearings. Mentioned compressor looks a bit puny but was assurred it did the job but was not a tyre inflator. Say they want the truck for 3 days :jawdrop: By the way they said the same thing at ARB when I come back and am serious about fitting the Pro Lockers they would give me a better price.

Well next stop was Opposite Lock walked in an asked for a price on the Harrop /Eaton elockers front an rear, After some furious pounding on the keyboards for what seemed like a day came up with $3990.00 supplied an fitted included were new carrier bearings in the deal. Asked what sort of compressor I get just to see if they were on their toes :harhar: Also asked for a price on the Detroit for the rear said will get back to me.

Well to sum up
ARB $4304.35
TJM $3946.07
Opposite Lock $3990.00

Has anyone come up with any better prices recently particularly in Brissy.

Regards Gary

Well first up for the Arb bloke to say you'll get a better price, he's a dick. Why nit give best price first time..

Tjm, why the fark install a compressor that's no good for tyres???

But why not leave the rear lsd??

Can blame consumers for the lack of effort on the pricing. Everyone wants something for nothing and if ARB give out the best price first, they both give the other brands a target to go lower than and a price for the consumer to wave around in front of the other places.
Notice all the prices are about the same? The consumer gets to decide which brand they like then ARB might throw in the compressor or something when it comes time to make a decision.

A locker is better than an LSD in the bush. It's why comp trucks run front and rear lockers. For touring on dirt and bitumen roads with some off-roading, I'd rather keep the LSD. But that is an argument for another thread! LOL

Get a price for supply only, if you have a diff bloke find out how much he will charge to install, you might be able to R/R centres to save coin also.

Elocker the only way!! After having ARB lockers for many years and all the little troubles I had from day to day Ill never go that way again!! I now have a front Elocker with the rear tighten up and love it.
My troll goes anywhere and with the rear tightened I still have positive traction in 2 wheel drive also save a lot of money witch got me more fun stuff!!

That is great to hear. It didn't take long. I think when I get closer to the bottom of my ever increasing list of things to do, I'd definitely go an e locker in the front.

Hey mate the quotes came with fitting prices
ARB $800 + 264.00 fitting compressor
TJM$727.28 +$220 for compressor
Opposite Lock $700.00

Also Opposite Lock got in touch with me today and said Harrop Engineering have two Detroits in stock for the rear and can supply an fit one in the rear for the same price as a rear elocker. Must admit I am leaning towards the elockers or an elocker for the front an detroit for the rear. Will start up another thread about the detroit.

No way you'd put a Detroit in the rear at the same price as an elocker. Elocker every day. Also, you can buy the Detroit lockers cheaper direct from the USA.. You'd have it in your hands (if that's the way you want to go) for $700-800. Maybe a little more with the change in the AUD.

Detroit lockers are pigs on the HWY, and annoying if you want to turn in mud.

Detroit Auto Locker in the front for US$699 out of the US and install yourself. Just Differentials is the mob to lookup if you want to go that way. I think that price included free postage too. I'm happy with just a front auto locker, and LSD in the rear.
