I had a 80 model hilux, and apart from the gutless 18R 2ltr petrol motor, bad fuel economy, 4 speed box, leaf sprung front and rear, no weight over the arse, More bog than metal, vinyl bench seat, no air con, etc what's not to love?

I had an 82 Hilux before the GQ. Bloody loved it mate. Not a GQ by any stretch but great fun. Mine was on LPG. 18r

If you buy it I have a set of factory manuals for the 18r. Would be willing to sell them to you.

Leaf sprung strong arm steering gutless petrol lots of rust. Loved the rear window slider.

Well its a 32 year old car that has probably seen a hard life. the 4cyc is easy enough to work on and plenty of room to work. Its $1300! It will probably slog it out mate. I blew a head gasket on mine and fixed it myself in the driveway. sent th head for machining but thats all. Up until that moment i had never done an oil change unassisted. That was a long time ago ;)

Its $1300, it has a Tub for your tools and an engine and Rego ;) Happy days. Your not buying a Keeper .

For $1300 you're not going to get a huge amount of good points, no matter what the car is. Reckon you'd be better off getting a cheap arsed runabout car and saving up a little dough for another 4wd. But that's just my humble opinion

common mate, this is a patrol forum, we all own patrols for the same reason so you aren't going to get to much help regarding other cars sorry! Try a 4x4 forum in general, wide range of different vehicles on them.

Well heaps of people have had hiluxs, range rovers etc. So it cant hurt to ask

V6 Jackaroos are a real pain to do anything on, engine wise. Dads Jackaroo on gas has towed a 18-20 foot caravan on a 20000 k trek around Aus. The gas caused head issues. I helped strip the heads off and it was an absolute nightmare. It took almost 5 grand to repair. (New pistons, rings, honing the bores, reconditioning the heads, gasket kit, timing belt, thermostat etc, etc). Dad has stripped the gas system out and fitted a long range and aux fuel tank, ready to tow the van to WA and back. Body and suspension is still in pretty good nick.

@mudnut just wondering if you know if patrol and jackaroo wheels are the same stud pattern I know there both 6 stud

like I said before, I honestly believe if you were to buy a cheap arsed 4by you'll probably end up having to spend a bucket load just to keep it on the road.

They are a six stud pattern, but the measurements and offset may be different. Hopefully, some one in the know, will have the answer for you.
