Hi All,

New to the forum today, and don't actually own a Patrol yet, but thinking of getting one. Hello to all of you...!!!! Currently have a 1998 Pajero with about 270,000km's on it. But looking to get a Patrol as well, but a little newer, with a few less km's

I thought I would start off with a question...

I am looking to buy a 2007 or later Patrol, but have a limited budget. Would like to go for the 3.0L Diesel Auto. I have seen that the DX's are a bit cheaper than the ST's, just wandering what the big differences are....??

And is it worth stretching the extra money for an ST...??

Also, anything obvious to watch out for when buying would be greatly appreciated..??

Looking forward to exchanging some stories in the future...

Thanks,

DJ

Welcome to the forum DJ.
I asked similar questions on this forum prior to purchasing our Patrol.
I had a NL gls, and now the Patrol DX model.
Compare the DX with a Paj GL (doesnt have the bells and whistles). The ST with the GLS or Exceed.

I am still feeling my way with the Patrol, but no doubt other members here will be able to supply more info.

DJ,

Although I have the manual, and feel a little funny about saying this after only owning manuals, I think the Auto is better.....especially for day to day duties and matches the torque curve of the diesel well.

These days modern Autos are fairly reliable, and although the Patrol box is a little agricultural compared to the 6, 7, 8 Speed Autos you are starting to see today, they are as tough as nails.

ST gets you electric windows. mirrors and carpet, as well as some other creature comforts - in the later models it gets you Dual Air Conditioning, which I think is a must for passengers in the back and rear seats ... I have always had an ST or above, as I think they are a much larger portion of the market, and that opens up your resale possibilities a little wider later on, when you decide to upgrade.

DX has vinyl floor coverings and differently trimmed seats, sometimes have Split Rims instead of the alloys, and miss out on some of the more luxurious items - but there are buyers out there looking for this too.

Make sure that you head towards the CRD version, as the only real problems that have made themselves evident with these are failed belt tensioners ( which also happen on the DI ), some with not so good fuel consumption ( if buying from a yard ring the previous owner to check ), and a very few early ones of the CRD's had bolts that weren't torqued up or loctited properly on the oil pumps, and they caused oil starvation problems.... apart from that - they are starting to prove themselves to be a fairly reliable unit.

Welcome mate, surely the best forum on the net. If you need it, you can get it, if you want to know it, just ask it.
If you want to find it, go to the search bar for a universe of information.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the greatest show on earth.

Hi
I have a DX and went that way to have minimum electric issues
if it's manual less to go wrong
We have 4 of 4wd's all manual but we also live on a steep rough gravel road and use 4wd daily, so AUTO was not suited to our needs manuals don't run away down hill
Love the Patrol as it is our tour vehicle and cruises like a limo after the stretch
Good luck with your search .

Welcome DJ.

Another difference that I do not think people have stated is that the DX's are leaf rear and the ST' are coil rear sprung.

Appear to be in the utes at least.

Cheers
Rainsey

Don't forget to look interstate.

I live on the Central Coast and at the time there was nothing available. Folks are up at Tamworth, thought for sure I would get one there ( ute that is) no go.

Ended up buying mine from Adelaide, seems SA is the GU Ute capital of Australia. Got mine for thousands cheaper than I could find in NSW, flew down there on Friday arvo, picked it up and was home Saturday night.

welcome along guys, i have a dx as i wanted the vinyl floors and no electrics, in saying that i wouldn't mind electric front windows as its a pain to lean over to wind down the passenger window.
