WTF is wrong with people?? what a prick to do that to a 12yr old in front of other kids and their parents, dont know why he did it and dont care the bastard deserved to be shot by the cops but he should have survived to spend the rest of his life in prison rotting.

Poor kid, I share the same sentiments about the fathers fate. Although I am glad he is dead if he had been imprisoned he may have one day been released.

My initial reaction was, what were all the other people that saw it happen doing? Surely somebody would have tried to stop it? Hard to say because I wasn't there obviously but that's my first thought.

i think most people would just have been stunned and wouldnt know what to do, they would just be frozen i would imagine.

Surely someone would have jumped in to stop and not just stand there watching

None of the news outlets I have read are saying anything about what has happened except that the son and father are both dead.... very, very unfortunate - I gave my kids an extra hug this morning

Utterly disgraceful.
For a man to afflict such anger on a child.
It must have been horrible to watch, just disbelief.

Mate, it would have happened so fast before people could have had a chance to realise what was going on.

PS, I am glad the MONSTER was shot dead! I now feel sorry for the poor officer that shot the Monster. He will never be the same again!

I wish he did not die so he could receive regular beatings by other inmates in prison.

Poor kid. Didn`t really live life long enough to really enjoy it.

As bad as it may sound but I believe that sort of aggression would not have been the first time, the poor kid is prob better off. But yes I also think the the father should have lived and received regular beatings for the rest of his life.

There's a bit more info from the mother. http://www.news.com.au/national/rosie-batty-speaks-about-the-tragic-events-leading-up-to-the-murder-of-her-son-luke-batty-11-in-tyabb/story-fncynjr2-1226826275323

I just don't understand how someone could do it to a child and I suppose I never will.

Truly an unspeakable act and I simply can't comprehend it. It brings a tear to my eye every time I hear the news report and I imagine the terror of that young boy. Even worse that it happened at the hand of one of 2 people he most trusted in the world.
It is unfortunately a reminder of the domestic and family violence that occurs on a daily basis and in this case sounds like a situation exacerbated by serious mental illness (though we don't really know).
I know the reaction is to think of this man as a monster and yes, it was a monstrous act but I am also sad that somehow the mental health/justice system has irrevocably failed this family and unfortunately it won't be the last time.
Seriously, if you are struggling with life and your mental health, please seek help.

This tragedy will touch the lives of many. I sincerely hope that it will send a clear message to the authorities that there needs to be way more resources available for sufferers with mental health issues. I think the depression thread is just about the best thing on this forum, thank you Jonathon.

Its hard to imagin what you would do in a situation like this untill it happens but being a family event I would think most peoples instinct would be to get there own kids and family out of harms way as a priority also.

I'm also glad he was shot dead as I don't beleave our justice system is good enough, take max sica getting only 35 years for brutally murdering 3 kids(strangled, drowned and bludgeoned) here in brisbane and I doubt he will serve his full term.

Bit more on this sick fuker!

Several warrants for his arrest were issued by magistrates last month, but police failed to locate him.
The 54-year-old had been charged by police with assaulting Ms Batty and threatening to kill her, as well as possessing child pornography.

Reading the mothers interview it doesn't appear the father was on the run......

i just don't understand this act. years ago my wife left me and took our son to qld and wouldn't let me see him, yes I wanted to exact revenge on her but never would hurt my son to get back at her, so what I did do was go to family court and got custody and said now eff u and a few more things but im trying to keep it civil
