Thought I would post up here instead of discussing this in the wanted section Macca. I have checked out the post regarding the swap with Grimace.

Here is my story. The missus has been badgering me regarding the seating arrangement in the ute. Wanted someplace to put her handbag she found there wasn't much space with the bucket and console arrangement. The handbag is somethin to behold has everythin in it from makeup to a spare gearbox for the patrol. She takes it every time we go touring. So see as it contains a lot of spare parts for the patrol I figure I would try an accomodate her wishes and being the smart thinking bloke that I am score a few brownie points ( have a few acquisitions for the ute in the forseable future ). Also in the 3 months I have had the ute I have found the console not much use to me the only good thing being I could rest my arm on the top of the console. The drink holders were a bit iffy as well.

On the weekend I picked up a brand new 11/2 bench seat it came with the seatbelts but nothing more. I promptly pulled the the console, gearstick surround and the bucket seat and installed the bench seat too easy. Now the hard part is trying to find something to replace the gearstick surround would also have liked to include some cup holders in the equasion.

Macca I noticed you said the handbrake was different and would look better how so do you have a piccy.

Went to the Nissan dealer yesterday for a bit of a laugh to see if they could get in a console didn't go too good why am I not surprised . Might check out some after market stuff like the Dept of the Interior to see if they have anything.

Anyway after all my hard work I get the missus out to proudly show her what I have done. She stunned me by saying it looks allright and then promptly goes an gets the handbag. Asks me if she could borrow the engine crane to lift it up no worries darlin I said give it to me shit there goes the hernia.

Yes very funny, I don't have a pic but will try and get one.
The DX version handbrake has a small plastic surround with a vinyl boot that fixes to the floor and the mechanism is all hidden under the boot.
The console one from a ST has a curved rubber part that sits behind the slot in the console so removing the console exposes the handbrake mechanism and looks sh!thouse IMO.
I swapped / gave mine away when I got just the rear part of the console. Then Graham (Grimace) wanted the seat so I ended up with the complete console but unfortunately couldn't help him out with the handbrake.
He at least got the seat he wanted and the shifter surround.

Hey Macca had a gander at the Department of the Interior web site an came up with this pic. They say to use a genuine gearstick surround from a DX model when installing their console also mention the hand brake . They say the gearstick surround comes in at 55 bucks Look like I am back at the Nissan dealer if nothing comes up in the meantime.

Keep us posted Gary. I'm on the scout for a dx gearstick surround too.

Gary there was one of those consoles at the local 4x4 shop.
The storage is a vinyl "bag" held in by Velcro, to me it looked hideous. And the money they wanted for it WOW.
Suggest potential customers have a look at one if they are thinking of buying.
Good luck in your search, hope you can get hold of what you need.

Hey Macca my thoughts also on the price a bit steep.

Went down to car yard that sell lots of govt vehicles to check to see if they had some DX Patrol utes. This was my old stamping ground when chasin up a ute months ago. Walked in and found they still had the same Patrol utes in the yard when I was lookin. The sticker prices havn't changed since then either. Lookin arround for a little while when all of a sudden I was surrounded by car salesmen. Thought I was goin to get lynched. Turns out all the salemen were the ones I had been dealing with over the time I was lookin. They had come down to see what I was up to showed them my pride an joy an low an behold they were a bit impressed. Who said used carsalesmen were crunts even got me a cup of coffee.

Any way walked away with a vin number so I could chase up a gearstick surround from Nissan apparently they are very keen on vin numbers. Don't think I am going to get any joy regarding drink holders will hunt arround for something.

Cheers
Gary

I have read your post and found it really nice and most interesting (http://www.metalrecyclers-brisbane.com.au/). I would like to say thanks to you that you share this post here with us. I wanna ask you a best site about old cars or like a cash for old cars, etc...?
