Weird, I had the intermittent tacho in my 2.8, engine light on tacho no go, then would suddenly spring to life the drop out again, pulled sensor from injector pump and that appeared fine, anyway couldn't handle that damn constant engine light on the dash, so I pulled the cluster and removed the globe, and now would you believe the tacho works perfectly no dropouts, which leads me to think there is something else that interferes somewhere else

I do like a good taco but I much prefer a burrito myself.

Rickie,

I would put the check engine globe back in - never know when you will need to know what is going on with the motor.

sounds like a loose connection or dry solder joint in the instrument cluster which you have disturbed pulling it in and out.

Yeah made my day lol
grab a magnifying glass and inspect all solder joints , you may find one is dry soldered and cracked.
My son had one out of a magna the other day and it was on the silver paper circuit but found and fixed
