Hi All,

I have a GU8 Patrol (with Nissan BB and TB),
and I have a quick question....

If you are allowed to make 'one and only one' mod to this Patrol what would that be?

Cheers,

But if you are married a set of earplugs might be handy too so you don't have to listen to the whine from the passenger seat.

Front locker. You have the rear as standard so ithe front/back combinaton would be unstopable

But won't get that far without decent tyres. Lol

Standard D693 AT's are pretty good I reckon. Not in the MT category but OK all the same.

Everyone forgot to ask the main question.

What do you want to do with the vehicle?

Touring, muddy tracks or rock climbing, sand, family truckster, etc

But all of the above comments will be needed in due course as you get addicted...lol

I got the second set of tires on it Micky Thompson STZ.

What 'I' like to do:

This will be our family vehicle too so not so much off road look. But we do lots of camping (caravan park for now) and we all do like adventure (riding, kayaking, walking and driving around bushes).

My first plan would be to take the family to a beautiful river (similar to Jamieson - which the other half loves to have bath) which can only be accessed by a 4wd (doesn't need to be too much difficult terrain as it is only a start).

Cheers,

I'd go with a 2" lift if I were you.

No need to ask.... no matter what type of offroading you modify the suspension

But only one mod though benny boy only one...lol

If purely muddy bog holes, off camber slippery tracks and clay based terrain I would choose tyres over a lift any day.

No point with a lift running slicks in the mud.

Tyres are a consumable item, :p, they have to be bought at some stage :D

Dual battery was the first thing I did.
Bought my Waeco fridge before I bought the Trol to put it in.
Gotta keep the JD's icy cold.

Exactly right. No Brainer. Suspension will be there for the next 200,000kms if you buy right.

... except... well over 50% of Patrols sold never go off road

decent tyres, the Patrol goes ok in stock guise, yep tyres definitely

So those would never be modified in any way, so the owner wont ask the question

The biggest performance gain you will get "off road" over stock is with a good set of muddies. Not sure I would call that a mod though! So my choice for the 1 only mod would be a winch, all the other mods will only get you "into trouble" (fun) the winch will get you out.

Hmmm, tyres aren't that cheap. You can get either a winch, a locker or 2" suspension for less then tyres down here

... except in any given Macca's Carpark

(The smileys aren't working for me matey, I'm totally being facetious not having a shot)

Those 50% of vehicles a set of draws to hold the lippy and soccer shirts would probably be the best Mod

For a while now it seems apparent to me, many cars "with" good mods (lift/tyres etc) don't go off road as well !

Then use the money from sale to buy a gq that somebody else has thrown money at.

2" suspension lift, tyres wear out and then you replace them anyway

Chubba
3rd July 2014, 07:42 PM
you already have the rear diff lock so it would be 2" suspension lift.
