I have about 4 of these small braided earth straps...this one comes from the top of the shocker tunnel to the exhaust manifold originally..now I have extractors on it is too short so I will have to make up a new one but do I need it ??...there is aslo 2 that were connected to the exhaust from the chassis ?...do I need them also ?..

there was another one somewhere else in the engine bay..I just cant remember where at this stage...

do I need to go to the trouble of welding brackets back on the new exhaust for them or can they stay off....why do you need to earth the exhaust system ?? and why so many ?

One from main battery to chassis then to body, mine is rocker cover I think.
The On passenger side Its chassis to exhaust stud.
That's all I have, TD42 engine here but I can't see that being an issue..

yeh cheers westy...mine goes from battery to engine and has a stripped loop in it connected to body...so one lead...so one lead bent then stripped at bend and continued on to motor....

I am only assuming that having all the other small ones is just continueing the earth on down the body via the exhaust for some reason ??

You may find your patrol is earthed in different places like engine bay, dash , cabin , passenger and cargo area.
A lot of threads here are about faulty earths , More the merrier I say

Could possibly be there to try and eliminate engine noise in the AM radio?

Menace,

Don't worry about the earth straps .... worry that your engine bay is way too clean .....
