Hi everybody! Thought i'd throw up a debrief on my 1998 4.5L petrol GU patrol I picked up a couple weekends ago. Picked up for a decently cheap price at a bit over 240000km on the clock. Pretty impressed so far but have also had to tinker with a few things to get it on the road.
When i picked it up it was running:
4" lift running Lovells springs, ProComp ES9000 shocks and a bit of superior engineering gear
33x12.5 Maxxis Bighorns
Bolt on rock sliders
Full length ARB roofrack with shovel/hi lift jack holster
ARB side and rear awnings
Wiring for a auxiliary battery system in the rear
UHF
Goals will be to:
Clean up my sliders (a little bit of surface rust condition, not very aesthetic at all) and possibly repaint my bar to black
3" exhaust system
4" stainless steel snorkel
Pair of spotties for the bullbar (accepting recommendations ) and possibly 1 big or 2 small lightbars mounted to front of the roof rack
Second battery to go into the existing dual system setup
Rear bar + rear reverse/work light
And finally just some general other cosmetic changes and recovery gear setup :D

Or I could be really scared of the dark and get a combination of the both! Only thing i'm cautious of now is a friend I have on facebook got the book thrown at him the other day by some local cops for having a single lightbar on the roof instead of equal amount (2+)..

You're not wrong lol.
Just need to sort out a power issue and she'll be a real monster.

It shouldn't be anything crazy, I thought it was a clutch slipping initially but wasn't getting any usual indicators like the cabin smell
I think i've isolated it to being the air sensor, looked pretty dirty when I unplugged to clean out and the wiring to it is rather shabby, but will report back if it's not that.

Have a search around here there is a thread on number of lights. The law has been brought into line in at least a couple of states and I reckon the police man got it wrong. Tell your friend to check the current AS In your state.

Moving along with some basic up to date mods since I've got it got it:
Replaced the interior lights with some fancy LEDs from supercheap, shine a fair bit brighter than the standard bulbs

Also had a chance to replace my ProComp ES9000 shocks that we're worn pretty bad in the rear, the front surprisingly not to bad at all but stuck in there like all hell.. Had the dreaded shock spinning situation when trying to lock it into place to ratchet off the bottom nut on both left and right hand sides. Ended up having to grind off the right hand shock just near the bottom of the chamber and was as simple as unbolting the top as per usual and banging the remaining bolt out at the bottom with a hammer.
The left side a whole different story, PITA. Top bolt wouldn't budge either so ended up having to grind the piston halfway up, then remove the brace up the top and cut off piston again and pull the whole thing out that way.. what should have been a 30minute job turned into a couple hours and a heap of swearing at the blastard things.
Old rear shocks and the bottom bush from the left rear: (didnt bother with front shock pictures, got binned instantly out of spite)

And the new 4" dobinson I ordered from Superior to go in:

Just replacing the shocks has made great improvements, rides alot more smoother and the body roll around corners has easily more than halved what it was prior. Overall am happy with this mod :bananarock:

Took the truck for its maiden trip this Australia Day weekend just gone - Patrol ran like a breeze with not a problem at all other than my inexperience of beach driving getting myself bogged once. Happy with that.
Went for a drive following my mate up to Rainbow Beach with thinking we're camping at Inskip Point. Upon arrival at Rainbow we were getting on the beach and heading south to where I learnt we were actually camping at Double Island (Teewah) and to my amazement he'd never camped there or knew about the south entrance from Tewantin over the barge..?
Upon finding a campsite eventually along the packed beachfront and settling in I learnt how much the 4.5L loves to guzzle fuel! A bloody lot according to my 1/4 remaining main fuel tank!
Long story short it was a fun trip with a few mates with some beverages, bbqs, beach cricket and laughs with the blokes camped next to us.
