Hello All (after a long break).
I am seriously considering buying a new Y61 ST Plus Special Edition (pre-Oct 2013 ADR Compliance ST plus some extra goodies) in the next few days.
My usage for the vehicle is venturing into remote areas, towing a camper trailer where possible. The Patrol is to replace the Jackaroo that has given stirling service.
I would welcome any comments or alerts from those who know the current ST. Any advice will be appreciated.
Cheers

Welcome mate.
Sounds awesome.
Which extras are you getting.
If your looking at going remote then bolt on the basics.
Dual battery
Lift kit and good AT tyres
A nice stainless reverse light and tyre bag to suit.. :D
You may need a roof rack depending on how you travel.
And some recover gear.
A winch is top of the list, but this list is huge and changes depending on the trip..
Anyway, enjoy the experience. Nothing like that new car smell..

Good choice! Toughest 4x4 around.
If you're not too concerned about warranty. I would NAD it the moment you bring it home. That way the engine and the turbo breath easy from the start. Will prolong engine life massively.

Love my new car, which I guess is no longer new. Which now looks like this.

Don't forget to really bust their balls fir the best price, then bust their balls for extra extras.
That's what I did, but it did go on for nearly four months, until they throw in everything they had, I didn't sign, then I got them to extra ARB gear pre delivery (although the ARB stuff I paid probably half of what ARB would charge me).
Then I got my seats done.

Chipped it, 3" zorst it, pyro, boost and dual volt gauges, are important mods

Aaaaaaarrrrrrgggggggg, yes, of course. I meant which transmission.
Personally, I would only get the vehicle if it was an auto at a gob smackingly good deal.
I just can't find it in me to recommend the CRD with a manual tranny for remote travel when towing.
Mine is an '07 with nearly 160,000 K's up. It is on it's 3rd Clutch, 3rd Dual mass Flywheel, 2nd Turbo, 3rd Intercooler, 2nd Dash, 3rd Satnav and I have learnt to carry a spare belt tensioner assy or risk yet another recovery on a flat bed. Thankfully I had the 6 year warranty.

Hi mate, there are quite a few that own the current model or the last cople of years, a few have already responded, NissHead is happy with his and he has done a fair bit of towing with it too.
I am not a 3lt guy but from all accounts the CRD is a winner and is performing very well. A little birds tells me that you have a good mate that is giving you good advice on remote travel and vehicle set up.
So what your mainly after in this thread is feed back and confidence in the CRD ZD30. Not to mention factory rear diff lock, stab control, ABS and some runout special, hit them up mate. Floor mate, seat covers, tow pack, electric brake controller, roof rack, driving lights, change tyres. All possible.
I vote Yeah!

Thanks for your responses, guys. I failed to mention that the proposed purchase is the Diesel-Auto. And you'r right MudRunner - I am looking for confidence in the basic elements of the 2013 version of the 3 litre diesel with auto trans.
I am very aware of the concerns of owners with earlier 3 litre diesels. Has Nissan not resolved those issues by this time?

I wouldn't be too sure on the runout deals though. I bought one in 2008 thinking I would be getting the last one.....
Then I bought one in 2011.....
Mine is CRD and manual, and no troubles.....Everyone raves over the Autos though, so I would take a good look at them

Hello OldCodger,
Got the 2012 Simpson Edition in Automatic and very happy with it. Last year we towed the 1500kg Jayco for a 13,000km trip, did the Cape and a fair bit of 4WDing. Car preformed exceptionally and we were fully loaded. Averaged 16.15lt per100k on the trip and now averaging about 12.5 lt per 100k.
Since then I've taken it on some reasonably difficult tracks and been very impressed with the auto, I'd recommend it.
I din't take as long as Mego to come to a decision but I did play 5 dealers off against each other for a couple of weeks and it was well worth it.

Well done mate, bet you can't wait.
I was in hospital when they told me mine was ready for pick up.
So they left my car in the showroom for the ten days I was in hospital.
They rang on the second day in hospital
And sent me this.

They went through the roof above the passenger seat about 150mm off the gutter.

same as mine but the neatest i have seen is through the roof between the doors on the back, not the roof itself but the vertical part of it.
