Hi
i have a 1989 patrol wagon on dual fuel, it starts and runs fine other than a backfire on both gas and petrol which is very inconsistent. i have read loads of posts regarding this problem but i cannot afford to just rebuild everything under the bonnet. my question is, can anyone give me a "start with" list that i can get going with.
Thanks in advance

Start with checking the timing and ignition system.

Backfire will be air leak in the exhaust system or your gas is running lean
on the condenser there should be a screw with a spring on it , back it out two flats of the hex.
this will allow more gas in. all I've got at the moment
Edit you wont be able to get both running 100% so most get the gas running as good as they can
timing the gas you'll need to advance the timing to a point where it just pings on petrol and I mean just pings
Check your leads at night for shorting, or if your TV is going ape droppings everytime you roll up , change your leads

Have you got yourself an extended rotor button?

The list is long. (if you have an exhaust leak, you should be able to hear it)
Does the truck idle on petrol and gas?
pertonix
Extended rotar button
Air leak
Plugs
leads
Tappets
Dizzy cap
Loose carby
inlet gasket leak
carby kit
if the truck runs and idles on petrol and gas - probably does not need a kit

Hey mate, no it's not a commonly bought item. There's a few mobs that make them in Victoria I believe, if you do a search on the forum it will come up with heaps of threads.
