Hey guys this is my 1uz powered maverick. i havent had a chance to go playing with it yet as im still ironing out bugs with certain things such as clutch and leaking sump but it goes great with the little 4lt motor. i also have a m90 supercharger im putting on after i get everything else sorted.
Im aiming for 300hp atw when im done.
its running all the factory patrol gear behind the flywheel. it currently has a lsd in the rear but i have a factory locker i might put in later.

loom was not too bad had a couple of things give me a little trouble but was pretty simple really.
as far as lego well its really a nissan with ford badges, toyota motor, falcon rad hoses, corolla brake booster hoses, mack truck inlet hose, gu 3" tail pipe, gen 3 throttle cable, mazda injectors, and soon a ford thunderbird supercharger with a aftermarket intercooler. I like lego lol hahahaha.
havent dynoed it yet but will be soon im pulling g-box out this weekend to build a new sump and fix the clutch then itl go on the dyno. ( the father inlaw has one )
but yea even standard it boogies. i overtook a van goin 85 up a hill the other day and was doin $1.20 by the time i pulled back in, i can only imagine what he was thinking as it flew past.

quick update took gearbox out today i think ive sorted the clutch but cant tell as i pulled the sump off ready to build a new one. so after getting clutch fixed i put the box back on. more importantly as people may be keen to know before i did all this i put her on the dyno just to see how it goes. it didnt go as good as i hoped but the supercharger will fix that. it made 174 rwhp at 393nm of torque in 4th gear. not bad for a starter.

I don't know weather to likelier curse..
Heart saying WTF did yea do that for slipping an unreliable toymota lead weight into a rock solid gq for???

But head is saying fark yea. Wicked..

Is there any reason why you didn't trick up a TD42?

hahaha ok first the 1uz motor are a pretty solid motor 6 bolt mains and happy to rev high all day long. plus being all alloy there very light so makes the mav about 150kgs lighter.
i originally had a gq with a tb42 went as good as they go stock was reliable and drove nice but had heaps of rust i was gonna fix up. now being a guy that loves his v8's i always wanted to put a v8 in it but then this mav came up with the 1u already sitting in it ( dont get me wrong there was still stacks to do to finish it ) and it had very little rust so i bought it and spent the next 6 months finishing it. so in answer to your question the td was already gone or i would have left it diesel. In my opinion for a 4wd its either a v8 or a diesel or both ;-). id just like to add that dyno run was in 4th gear and went from 30kph to 180kph and it was still reving. it also considering being a toyo motor makes pretty good torque from nothing which surprised me.

Ok time for an update i think. This wont aid my argument for the toyota motor but i think it may have done a head. apparently this is rare for these motors but mine has some of the symptoms. im still checking before i pull it to bits though. i got a new steel sump made for it and it looks awsome and has no leaks which is also awsome. it now holds 8.5lt of oil..... lol. im still having trouble with the clutch and all i can say about that is if your thinking of doing any v8 conversion DONT use the crappy dellow kits there very badly designed. It is nice being able to drive it though its been way too long. i really cant wait to get it out in some mud but im a little way off being ready for that.
i also recently bought a 12000lb winch for it. Not sure how im gonna go about mounting yet but ill get there.

Update. since my last post i have now fitted my winch and its already saved a triton up a dune. ive sorted my clutch finally, and its soo easy its like theres nothing there. i had to extend the shaft from the slave cylinder and grind some of the bellhousing out. ive also pulled the heads off expecting to find a problem and i sorta did but it was unrelated to why i pulled the heads off. ive also mounted a roof rack on it too. other than the motors out its been going really well its just like any conversion its just the finishing touches to go. In the next few weeks ill have it complied ( hopefully ) and be going up to the flinders. i decided to write myself a list of things to be done and OMG it got big hahaha. but as projects are its how it goes. ill try get some pics up for you guys but i tend to just go to the shed and get all black so i cant use the camera. its been a bit of a mission this car but i think in the end itl be worth it, me and the misses both love to cruise around in it. Thinking of the misses just before i pulled the motor out she was telling me how she was chasing some commodores up a hill weaving in and out of traffic the other day. guess they thought the old mav would be slow especially with a girl driving it. hahahaha soo wrong.

Mate put an Infiniti V8 into his shorty Mav, plenty of get up and go.
Surely you must be lifting wheels powering hard out of corners,
My troopy with a 350 chev did, Excellent choice of motor too BTW
Have you kept it quiet or put a bit of a note on it.

warner01
18th July 2014, 12:58 AM
Yea the infinity is pretty good if i didnt go the 1uz that woulda been the next choice. it goes pretty good not as good as you chev woulda, will be better when the charger goes on but as it is theres no shortage of power on the road... or off it.
Its got extractors 4 into 1 ( or 8 into 2 ) then from the two 2inch pipes into one 3inch past the gearbox back to two 2inch through two cats then back to one 3inch straight through muffler whith a 3inch gu tail pipe out the back. so yes its a little too loud ill needa quiten it before the inspection but it does sound good. my fatherinlaw had a vs 5lt in a mav and he swears they sound exactly the same. ill prob swap out the straight through muffler for a chambered one see how that goes. theres nothing quite like the sound of a v8 an i live by the moto all v8's must be herd.

did you end up putting the supercharger on..........?

I had one on my Missus 1uzfe (100 series Kakadu Cruiser) - cost me about $12K
was noticeable difference, but by god it sucked the juice
ended up taking it off and sold it as she wasnt that interested in the xtra grunt

awesome rig though mate - good Job

I've seen and heard these motors ago. Some of the Toyota boys run them in the surfs and 4 runners.
Smaller and lighter than any Patrol.

If I hadn't f@#ked around with my surf and did a conversion to a 1uz-fe from the start, I probably would still have it.

Very interesting and unique having an unusual engine under the hood. That thing sounds nice!
One of my first 4x4 experiences was in a convoy with a GQ that had a Holden V6 Ecotec ( VS / VT ) engine under the hood. I used to own a VS so the sound was familiar... But not until the very end when he was airing up people looked under and there it was... lol

Na mate haven't put the charger on yet. Having space issues whitg the shear size of the m90 and don't wanna alter the bonnet for clearance. Now thinking I'll go a vortech or a single turbo. As for weight the troll isn't that much heavier than a lux I had one with a 253 once and it was heavier than my troll. I'm not too stressed about fuel but hopefully if I go turbo as daily drive it won't be too bad. As long as I can stay off boost for a bit Lol.

lol cheers sharky. no way am i doing another v8 conversion there painful. but one day i would like to slot a viper v10 into a gu. money proves to be the biggest stop in that project. id be happy to offer any advice or share info if anyone wants it though. it is cool driving a v8 4wd that revs to 6300.
