Hey guys thinking about shimming my diff in my shorty
Just wondering I it's worth doing or should I just up and
Get locker?
I've heard they can be shimmed pretty tight but I've also
Heard they wear out quickly?
What's everyone think?
Cheers

I have a few mates who have shimmed theirs, and I am about to shim mine. Works awesome and is nowhere near the cost of a locker!

Why waste money when you have the best lsd made.
But lock the front for sure..

Fronts running a Detroit auto locker, works a treat
Rear diff gasket is leaking a bit so while its all
Apart ill rebuild the diff wheel to wheel and thought I'd
Chuck some shims in it while its out,
Just wanted to make sure it's worth doing that's all
Cheers guys

If your pulling it out anyway then I would defiantly do it! Cheap as and almost as good as a locker!

exactly if your pulling it out and doing it yourself put the locker in as you said it's only almost as good as a locker!

Shim it, works as good as a locker but you dont break stuff. Road runner offroad sells shims cheap. I shimmed mine and its been unstoppable for years now.

Shim the LSD. that way you still have a limmo for on road and dirt driving not just a single spinner.

The 0.7mm shims are only good if the clutch plates are a bit worn, if they are still good it will lock it solid. I have a mate who used the 0.7mm shims and it did lock it solid, he is a machinist so he removed them and made some 0.3mm shims and it was better still functioned as an LSD on the road

So I was going to take out my rear diff and redo backlash as I think half a million k's would have some wear.
Anyway, how hard is it install a shim while it's out??
I do like the sound of a tighter lsd.

shimmed diff can work really nice but they dont stay tight for long if you give them a hard time.
