Good day all, iv'e 2 noise issues on my high roof TD42 old model non turbo (450th KM)
1) At high rev's or when changing down to overtake a squeal develops > same sound as a loose fan belt.
Belts are tight could this be the fan viscous coupling, what other oil can I use in the coupling if it is dry as I do not have the genuine stuff.
2) Steering screeches on full lock in either direction, moving or stationary. Is this damaging? both noises have not worsened in the past 2000kms.
Any help appreciated

Even if the belts are tight, the groove profile don't always match up causing them to squeal. Are they new belts?
Not sure what's going on with your steering. Have you checked the power steering fluid level? Might need a top up.

Sounds like loose or worn belts, sometimes people fit industrial belts and they dont fit the pulleys as well as automotive.

You can buy fluid for the fan from Toyota,
Not a tensioner pulley is it, or air con

Thanks Parksy, Klompy & Threedogs :- ATF steering fluid full & no leaks in 2000Kms think the pump & valves are tired, the other noise may be a belt issue will remove all and feel for bearing play on all pullies then fit some quality belts.................. The current belts look OK but fair enough need a closer inspection............ Good weekend cheers IC

You can buy a spray on belt dressing, that might help...

I would replace the belt it's probably worn and get genuine if possible, take the belt off and inspect it it may have splits developing.
Mine just needed replacing after 70,000 km .. It looked fine but was squealing on start up, I put a new one on and it's stopped.

I had a bunch of canaries all squawking in unison under the bonnet, & because the belts were all well tensioned I assumed the problem was a bearing that was shot. However someone suggested rubbing some candle on the inside of the belt. I did so & the noise went away. This fix was only temporary, but it told me the cause was the belt. Since replacing the belt have had no further canaries.
