Tried locking the hubs in (GU Auto hubs) goes about 10m and there is a clunk and feels like a wheel locks up momentarily. Then go another 10m or so and it happens again. Is this the hubs? Had a new gear box put in a couple of months ago and worried it could be that. Don't want to spend $300 for new hubs for no reason. Any ideas?

Try moving the nut on the auto hub to the lock position with your wheel brace and see if it makes the noise then. Also is this driving on bitumen because if so that's why.

And hopefully the test should be in a straight line.
Have you changed the diff oil recently?

Just curious, could this be the case if the hubs haven't been locked for a while ?

Try taking the hubs off and swaping them to the opposite side if you can detect the noise coming from the same side its not your hubs one of mine went a year ago sounded like it was coming from the left changed them over and could definitely here it on the drivers side brought some manual hubs and problem solved if your doing alot of 4wd the auto hubs wont hold up and there known to fail

Hey CDC, what brand of hubs did you buy?
