Hi all
I left my patrol with my brother, he told me it barely starts the first time on the day (after several cranks). Once it starts everything looks normal, idling, acceleration, fuel consumption.... If he turns it off, it turns on again nice and smooth.
It's a GQ 1996, TB42 carby, Pertronix 1762 and flame thrower 40511.
Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks 93patrol
Normally we depress the pedal once and start the car, it starts fine.
But now the only way to make it start faster when it's cold is to depress the pedal all the way down while cranking.
Could it be the ignitor or the coil???

Is the battery in good condition, they don't like the cold

Battery would be my first concern.

tell him also to get a can of carburrettor cleaner and while the car is running spray heaps of it down the throat of the carb and open up to wide open throttle at the same time as it might be a bit of gunk in there causing difficulties

Battery around three months old. Carburetor was cleaned less than a year ago with genuine repair kit.
I'll ask him to swap the battery with his patrol battery and do what 93patrol says.
I'll let you know asap.
Thank you all.

Is the battery the correct cca for the vehicle?
Thank you NP99
Not really sure about the cca, but it's the same battery in my brothers cars and it's the same one I install over years. My brother does not suspect it's the battery because it cranks very well.
What is the correct cca for TB42?

Over the weekend he did the following:
- put his patrol battery in mine, no improvements.
- pull the ignitor out ( Pertronix 1762 ) and put a new point and condenser in. The patrol ran from the first crank. To double check, he left the car for several hours and it also ran from the first one.
- I had a spare ignitor ( Pertronix 1762 LS ), he took the point out and installed 1762LS, the patrol ran from first crank ( when cold ).
He then drove it for test, unfortunately after 500 meters the patrol went off. Tried to start it but could not, there was no spark from the coil.
He put back the point and ran fine. The following morning it ran fine as well.
I will contact Amazon to see if I can return 1762LS and get a new one because I purchased it couple of weeks ago.
