View Full Version : Air bags

After closer inspection of my new toy GU111 I find I have air bags fitted to the rear.
Just wondered if it is necessary to keep pressure up in these. The Patrol is a lumpy ride anyway and would be worse with pressurised bags in.
What pressures would be used for example towing a caravan?
Thanks.

You need to keep 3 to 5 psi in them at all times to stop the springs from pinching the air bag & thay go up to 25 psi but you should do this after you are loaded.

Got them on mine now, and must admit, they are dead set empty unless I'm putting load on it ... Never pinched before, but not saying that doesn't happen as it is easy to see how it would. Definitely makes the ride more rigid once they're pumped up though, but does save your springs a bit of stress!!

Thanks guys, I went to pump them up a little and found the right one was leaking. Dropped the axle down and the hose was kinked and leaking. Easy fix and back together. Will try 3-5 psi and see how it goes. I would prefer no pressure at all, but don't want to bugger them up.

I run no pressure as said mate, and then fill them when I have weight on board - deflate them on arrival any where I am 4wd'ing and use the compressor to reinflate when I leave ... have had no problems so far ... good luck with it.
