Can anyone help me?

Right after I fueled up my car, I noticed that the fuel gauge needle was going up fairly quickly when I switched on the ignition. By the time I got home, around 1 km away from the gas station, I noticed that the the needle in my fuel gauge went way below empty. I opened up the cluster assembly and tried pushing it back up but it just fell below empty again.

Is there any way I can fix this on my own? (I don't have access to special tools)

(I edited this post. I realized that I misdiagnosed the problem the first time)

Does it drop back down to empty when you turn the ignition off?

It's not difficult to remove the cluster assembly. I think there's 6 screws that hold the cover on then another 4 screws that hold the cluster on. The clear plastic screen is only clipped on and you can then flick the needle back over to the other side.

Thanks for replying!

To answer your question, no, it stays down the whole time. I opened up the cluster assembly and I realized that I was wrong when I said that it went over and rests in the 7 o'clock position. Turns out it just went way below empty. I tried pushing it back up but it just drops down again. I noticed that there's still some resistance when it goes down.

Someone who was watching me suggested that it was a wiring problem. But, I'm not so sure if that's the case because this happened right after i gassed up. What do you think?

I tried what you said, and I was able to open it up. But then I realized that I was wrong; it didn't flip over to the other side, it just went below empty. Does the engine temperature gauge still read correctly?

Try disconnecting the wire from the fuel tank sender.

1. Ignition on what does the gauge read?

2. Join the Yellow wire (it might have a black trace) with the black wire at the fuel tank sender, ignition on what does the gauge read?

I'll get back to you on the others!

It could be the fuel sender in the tank is broken.
When you stop your car, try to get off quickly and go near the tank. If it's broken you will hear its sound moving in the tank.
