Hey guys

I got My maverick quite some time ago after selling my hilux i built as it wouldn't tow my track cars

Was a basic td42 mav with 3" lift,
shitty wheels and tyres,
3" stainless straight pipes etc etc

Since then i had BADDDD death wobbles so replace all the bushes and did the lift kit properly.
Drop boxes

Also added a muffler to the system as it gave me headaches!

Took it 4x4ing once... ended bad, went to fast and got airborn resulting in a now bent diff and a cut wiring loom. Only found out about the wiring loom as i was driving back from mt gambier and my tail lamp fuse was blowing. ended up buying some trailer lamps and taping them to my rear work lights just to get me home for work the next day..

Currently putting all the bits and pieces together to put a turbo system together. I will be using a spare RB25 turbo i had kicking about and a FC RX7 top mount intercooler

Thanks!

Is there any easy way to tell if my front diff is bent or not? After getting airborn i have a fair amount of Neg camber up front which is chewing the insides of my tyres out.

Im fairly sure its bent as being soild axle there is no real camber adjustment on it? my front end has seem to have sagged since aswell -.-

Yea if they say it's bent its bent.
Gu diff upgrade time.. You'll need to go to 16" rims though..

Guessing you launched off a razor back sand dune down this way??

Not if the diff is from a 3ltr, you can definitely fit 15s on them.

4.8s definitely not and not sure about the 4.5s either but suspect 16s will be needed.

i like my 15's :( ahh well just another thing i will have to ave up for!

Acquired the FC rx7 intercooler and the Manifold today. Should sit alright and piping looks easy to fab up. Thinking some stainless lobster back piping should do the trick!

Finally got to start fitting the turbo up. The manifold needs to be trimmed slightly as it hits the engine number plate but everything should fit easy. Only pain is going to be making the dump pipe. Thinking I may have to relocate the clutch line.

Cheers mate. Should be a noticeable difference when the turbo is done! Will be nice to able to go somewhere in a decent amount of time lol

They bend/break at the back of the swivel on that smallest point.
you can buy a laser cut piece that will weld in to make it stronger then laminate the long side
but as Kallen says time for GU diffs same mods available
but maybe back off on the fly boy stunts or it will end up costing you a fortune
As Clunk says the 4.5 and 4.8 run the larger rotors
15" tyre are cheap

Mm so I'm guessing the gu's have a 4.1 ratio diff? I don't do a lot of 4x4ing so kinda after the cheapest / easiest option.

Gq diffs seem to go for around $300 so I'm guessing gu's would be more?

So after finding out the original turbo I bought somehow has a bent shaft I managed to find another turbo the next night. The new turbo is s1 meaning its got a ceramic wheel and a journal bearing (these turbos can be rebuilt) vs my other turbo which was a s3 which was a bb steel wheel.

I had to trim my manifold and gasket a bit as it hit the engine number plate which was easy. I then made my intake pipe and started planning out the intercooler pipe.

Made the intercooler pipe up and polished both of them. Quite happy with how the fit. I also picked up all my proflow fittings I ordered for this. I'm just having trouble getting the grub screw out for the oil feed....

Also decided to go external waste gate which will be plumbed back.

Looking good mate. Not sure if all turbos can, but the ones I've seen you can rotate the housings to suit setup, so instead of having the outlet pointing at the wheel arch, I could be pointing up and reducing pipe length.
Also what sized waste gate did you get.

Spotman
5th February 2014, 01:39 PM
Yeah I have already rotated the housings but because of the funny elbow on the turbo this was the easiest position otherwise it hit the bonnet.

Is it true you shouldn't fit a turbo to a high mileage engine, that is an engine that has never had a turbo fitted?

Spotman
7th February 2014, 08:58 AM
Yeah this motor has never had a turbo fitted but I have been told it could've had a rebuild a some stage. I've seen a lot of people do it before but I guess we will soon find out. I will be only running low boost for this reason anywho.

So it runs... But ive got no boost. So ive bought another turbosmart external Gate so hopefully that fixes my issue as my current one leaks.

Ive had the worst luck on this build. pulled the intake pipe off the turbo only to find it was seized.. so i pulled it off and inspected the damage, was shocked to find what i did! it ended up taking an oil seal with it so coated my entire cooler pipes and inlet manifold in diesel oil! So a mate and I quickly built a turbo ou of the 3 blown ones i had and take it for a drive to burn the oil away.

http://i1358.photobucket.com/albums/q764/Spotman95/IMAG1152_zpsd01fb0ab.jpg (http://s1358.photobucket.com/user/Spotman95/media/IMAG1152_zpsd01fb0ab.jpg.html)

i was so glad it was finally boosting and it went hard! until the oil seals blew out of that turbo in a big way.

So ive bought a td05 18g with a 8cm rear housing off a mate that will be going on once the new external gate housing gets here. just gotta make new piping now :(

heres some pictures of the finished product which is now going to be redone. plan on taking the sump off and welding a drain fitting into that and remaking the piping to suit.

I somehow managed to snap the other spare turbo I put on this off my drift car aswell!

http://i1358.photobucket.com/albums/q764/Spotman95/IMAG1171_zps58034c20.jpg

I bought a td05-18g 8cm with less then 3000ks on it off a mate. Just waiting for the new t3 external gate housing to rock up.

http://i1358.photobucket.com/albums/q764/Spotman95/IMAG1172_zps841f1b9e.jpg

Also got rid of my muffler and made a new lobsterback tip up

Sooo the td05 is on and running.

Heres the dyno sheet from today, i am a tad dissapointed i didnt get larger numbers but it still feels awesome to drive!

Because of the funny manifold and 3" pipe hes a funky dump i made
