I have oil leaking from front swivels, after some advice from you guys I need to get a repair kit. Does anyone have detailed instructions on how to replace seals and bearings as the manual I have does not show much detail?

Will i need any special tools?

Thanks

Hi mate, yes there are a number of threads on this site that have walk through a with pics and exploded diagrams on the swivel hub. Use the search function in the top right. If your still in trouble then ask again here but you should have little trouble finding what you need mate.

Buy the swivel hub seal and bearing kit (about $230 from ebay), and look at the pieces. It will give you an idea of what is to be replaced. Buy your greaseS, front diff oil, and possibly brake pads beforehand. Do one side at a time.

Pay attention to the way things go together, especially the rear wiper seals.

Tools include rags, socket set, drift (flat punch), (disposable) gloves for grease, and gloves for petrol/kero. Parts washer/kero proof brush, isopropyl alcohol/brakleen, bench vice, bearing seal/oil seal insertion kit, circlip pliers, possibly a second or third pair of inner axle seals (you have the two you get in the kit, but it can be tricky, and may need to be done more than once).

There is more stuff required, but that will get you started. You could probably pay someone to do it for less than the money of setting up with all the tools. The upside is most tools will be used for other jobs you might do. The familiarity you will gain is useful if something breaks when you are out driving.

Plus pre photo as you go, it will help if you get stuck. Have rags underneath as when you pull the axels, crap will leak everywhere.

A socket close to the size of the axle seal will see it installed with ease. Hub seal a hammer and punch. Basic hand tools. The only thing that may be difficult is removing the bearins from the top and bottom plates. I used a press with ease but without it would be a pain I would imagine.

Ciurclip pliers will be handy though two screw drivers will work

Have you tried doing a search on youtube?

I recall seeing a video of a guy doing this to a GQ with very detailed instructions.

Worth a try.

Cheers
