Thanks guys.

yeah it will be great to catch up sil3nt.
Love 4x4ing.

I m looking for a roofrack with a awning, but I dont know wich one is best?

you can get good second hand roofracks?
I see you can get a tracklander for +-$1200 secondhand.
Is that a good roofrack or what should I look out for?
I think I will add later on a rooftop tent.

Thanks for all the replays guys.:thumbup:
Love to hear more from you.

Keep an eye out on Gumtree, second hand gear comes up all the time....... Obviously depends on if you don't mind 2nd hand gear.
I bought my Rhino rack system for $500, that includes 3 bars, 1800mm long cage and a few other bits n pieces. Would have cost close to 2k new.
Awning I bought from Supercheap for $198 on sale..... Make is Ridge Ryder and can't grumble with the quality.

I went with the Rhino racks over a steel cage, due to weight saving and also I can install the racks myself. Steel cage is a new person lift.

yeah, I am not in a hurry.
I had a look on gumtree, but all the good deals are in Perth and by the time I get there its already sold.
Geraldton dont have much in that area. hehe.
I will get the right one some time.

Another question that I have is a metal replacement front bumper.
You get a lot of 2004 onwards bumpers for a good price, and what I understand on a few posts of other guys in the other section that it wont fit my 98 gu?
And which bumper is the best for a gu with a winch cradle if I get one for a 98?
Arb, tjm or Ironman or are there other makes aswell?

I saw that 4wdsupastore sells a replacement bumper new for a 2004 onward for $300?
Thats cheap I think.

yes Gumtree over here, you need to be faster than Superman to get the good bargains,
but time and patience always wins.......

instead of just replacing the bumper, why not go for the full Bar? (that chrome would be had to keep clean - my thoughts)

when you start your "modding" have a plan of attack - whats first?
what are you going to use it for - touring or playing.......

tyres ok to half tread...?? leave them for the moment

exhaust & extractors and decent tune-up first

dual battery set-up next - do the investigations, and find out what suits you and your needs - (keep a fridge on for day trips or long term left in car idea?) run 65million LED lights? whatever........
some good systems out there, I run a Red Arc in my patrol, and the Piranha in my missus Cruiser (fully electronic for a fully electronic 4WD) no problems ever with either of them
I have had the old Coleman one, the "make it at home special out of parts laying around", the Red Arc x2 Piranha, and a few others over the years and vehicles

Draw systems (dont be limited to just Nissan - with a little work, a 2nd hand one out of anything will fit)

awning, as said, can pickup cheap enough anywhere - Supercreap, ARB, Opposite Lock - have a look at Auto1 up there in Gerro, they have a great range of 4x4 stuff

enough of my ramblings for the moment....

cheers

Thanks RLI, I love this forum.
Always good to have a chat with people that have walked the path before, save a lot of "school fees" for newbies, hehe.

So do people actually live in Geraldton by choice!? Strewth! Bloody ordinary place I reckon!
Admittedly my negative view of the place was very coloured by a certain large tractor & truck company who's so called repairs to the motor of our bus were so shoddy they wrecked it necessitating a complete replacement. Mind you the few weeks we spent holed up in the old convent in Northampton whilst the Geraldton mob stuffed us around were pleasant enough, & Horrocks was ok too.

That's not very nice Cuppa, some folk may say that about where and how you choose to live mate........ One bad experience does not maketh the place.........
On my trip up to Kalbarri last week, one of my hoses split and piss out coolant 15 minutes outside of Geraldton. One very kindly local stopped to offer help, he even went off to pick up a mate of his who also was a patrol owner thinking he might be able to help. By the time they got back, I had managed to sort it out. They followed me to Repco to make sure there were no other issues, would not take any money or beer or anything.
