these guys know the ins and outs , so take your pick mild or wild
Top mount intercooler and bigger pipe would be my first mods

Yeah mate he does. While in not up to speed on this topic I would say a bigger pipe wpuld be the cheapest. But better injector pump and turbo would see biggest improvements but at a cost too.

Turbo kit. Best thing you could do to a td42.

These motors are about as close to bulletproof as you can get, Berrima Diesel [I think ]
turboed a 4.2 with 500K on the clock no problems at all, you should be able to read about it somewhere

I've been told that the standard manifold is to restrictive and that upgrading it will increase air flow has any1 had any experience with this

The standard manifold is good for 20psi, you can still run more through it but the gains are not so good.
And a set up running that isnt so budget friendly.

Ben-e is right the standard intake manifold will work to 250rwhp (yes 250rwhp from a td42 is possible expensive but possible) but at these figures it would be very outside of its limits performance wise.

Ben-e's has been tweaked and he has quite a good setup, it's approaching a wild setup.

I run 25psi through mine daily, ben-e runs more. So unless you are want to spend atleast 10k straight up and get something more on the wild side, throwing a off the shelf turbo kit on yours and running a nice 12-15psi, your engine will be fine and you will be grinning from ear to ear.

Impressive I didn't think you could get that sorta power out of em. I wanna make it wild one day but will have to be a work in progress or mrs will shoot me. Sounds like you guys have done some serious work to your rigs.

Shaft, as your in WA, I would suggest United Fuel Injection near Perth Airport
I have used them and never had a problem
I got them to Dyno it first
then I have fitted the Turbo and intercooler off a GUV running standard 8psi boost - and I have no trouble pulling my Expanda around

if your lucky, you may catch hold of Matt when your there - very knowledgeable with the Patrols

cheers
