Hi. I recently bought a auto 2005 patrol zd30 . Owned it 3 days then lost all power when cold. Put foot down and it would idle away for about 10 mts then take off.. When warmed up it was good.
It then started throwing engine light and go into limp mode.
I sent it to a shop that said pump. Sent it to a second shop that said gearbox.
Sent it to a diesel specialist, 5 days later after changing, crank angle sensor and balancer,
Airflow metre, flyby wire, throttle sensor, then fitted new fuel pump and injectors, I got it back drove it home, idled in my driveway for a few mins then the engine light came on. Took it back, code 77, pump timing, they fitted a second new pump, and did the same thing. After fitting 3rd new pump and checking pump timing was set right and checking all my drive gears for wear, perfect. Picked it up drove it the next morning and,yep engine light, same code 77.
They have told me there is nothing else they can do or fit to that engine to stop it.

Please if anyone has a idea of what it can be, or might be.
Have exhausted every avenue. Looked for holes cracks in pipes, bad wiring, corrosion.

Hope someone has a idea. Barry

Wow, what a story, 4 pumps later and still don't know how to fix it :1087:

The fault can be caused by open or shorted wiring between pump and ECM. Trivial to confirm and much simple to check than changing fuel pumps.
Secondly it can be caused by air in the fuel,
Thirdly it can be caused by malfunctioning pump module or hardware failure (3 pumps already?)

Question comes to mind, has this ever been diagnosed properly in the first place?
Trowing parts at it and hoping it will work is a poor practice.

If you have a short in the harness chances are that it will take out the new pump as well.

What you need to do is firstly confirm that pump harness is free from faults 100%. If that means disconnecting the pump and ECU and than opening the harness on the engine side and inspecting every individual wire so be it.
Lets hope it is electrical/data link open circuit and not the short...
Good "autolecky" should have no problem checking the harness thoroughly for shorts/open circuit/damage whatever. Fuel injection specialist can confirm that pump module is OK.
Is this random/intermittent? If it is than it is electrical circuit issue.

I had the same codes come up on mine, I was on a trip out in NSW outback when this happened, try changing the fuel filter over with a new one. I was using a repco brand filter and the car didn't like it. Changed it over with a genuine one all good.
Have a look at your water sensor that screws to the bottom of the fuel filter. Give it a clean and see how it goes.
