Hey all, I will buying a drawer system after the silly season settles down. I am really liking the Black widow fridge sliding system. But I have a reservation or two.

Has anyone installed one of these? Is it necessary to drill any holes in the floor of the car? (GU8) . Is there a drawer system that you don't have to drill the floor of the car? There seems to be a few places there where the drawers could be bolted down.

Cheers, all.

I have the outback system (09 model) and from memory it is a no drill installation. A mate has just installed a smaller versions in his wifes 200 series landcrab again a no drill option. Safest bet is to call a stockist or Black Widow direct

I'm currently in the process of installing a black widow drawer system in my gu series 1. Even though there is heaps of bolt holes in the floor, the instructions specify drilling a 10.5mm hole between the tie down bolts. Not sure what the logic is but it may be that their drawer unit is generic across many vehicle manufacturers and the have bolt on wings for the different models.

I have a black widow drawer system, I have transferred it through 3 patrols now.. The first one I did not bolt it down( drill holes) and it always moved slightly when off road and you could never open both drawers at once as if loaded up the second one I drilled and I did take any consideration as to where I was drilling and made it a nightmare to access the nut( one was right above fuel tank another above the suspension spring) . This time round I measured and drilled the holes in open areas and easy to access, I made the holes the exact size of the bolts(I bought high tensile bolts, can't remember what the pack comes with). If you are worried about the bolt holes put a sealant around the nut and I used good size washers underneath to spread the load a bit but drilling is the way to go..

Thanks for the replies guys. I am really reluctant to start drilling holes in the rear floor. I have the long ranger 145L tank and that makes access really hard if not impossible. I see no reason that I cant use the holes left when the floor latch hoops are removed. Or those tie down thingy's.

I have just noticed that there is a local supplier for black widow here in the Alice. I might make use of them and see what they can find out for me....

Noticed the KINCHROME do a drawer system now, only saw it on some phamplets
If it were me I'd go with the "Outback" system, proven track record

Thanks TD... what has really got my attention with the Black Widow is the at fridge lowering set up. My wife is 5 feet zip. If I can get the fridge to lower she will no longer have an excuse not to get me beer!! Also being so remote up here I tend to buy where there is local support.

I'm sure they are good, but you'd have to drink a lot of beer to make one of those drop slides worth it over a milk crate to stand on...

Good on you, and make sure she reads that - you'll be allowed to buy what you want for the truck.

Well after installing my black widow drawers yesterday you do have to drill 4 holes in the floor. Quite simple really, it is definitely worth making new holes over using existing bolts, as the drawers are secured with 10mm bolts. The factory tie downs are only little bolts and wouldn't be as strong.

And as rotodriver said have a look underneath and plan the holes that are near the rear seats, as shock tower mounts and fuel tank can make it hard to get the nut on. I didn't have any issues, I could just see it been one if you didn't think it through.

what about some brackets welded to the frame to align with the existing holes?

Other benefit of the Outback drawers is if you have a look in the "manuals" section, there just happens to be a complete Outback Drawer manual that I supplied :)

Im in the process of instaling draws into my GU Wagon. I puchased 2 single draw units with fridge slide from Powerful 4x4. Great price...$940 delivered!
I run two fridges, so this was abig plus.
Generic draws, so i used existing bolts holes and fitted some small rhs onto these, then screwed draws to these....no drilling the floor.
Going to make some side infills out of 10mm ply and cover with the same material.(Spotlight $19.95/m)
Draws pretty good quality and a very good price.

Ok I have another PDF but it is 2.5mb and forum limit won't let me attach it so PM me your email and I will send it through if you are chasing it. Or if anyone can attach above the forum limit I can get them to post it.

The second PDF is a bit more detailed.

Cheers

I went for an outback system. No drilling and its the only one on the market that is ADR compliant to fit a child restraint to
