Hello all

I’m a long-time Nissan owner, we have run a 91 Pathfinder for several years primarily as a “learn to drive “ vehicle for our boys, but we had such great run from it that I’ve been reluctant to quit it. I’ve done a few high country trips in it but it does have its limitations for our rough riverbeds.

I’m really keen on our east coast high country, primarily the river headwaters that hold Tahr, getting about in the Mountains with rifle in hand looking for them is my idea of heaven.

So I needed a vehicle suitable for the big riverbeds of the Rakaia, Hopkins, Macaulay and Rangitata just to name a few. Landcruisers are popular but I thought for the funds I had available that a Safari offered more. And now I’ve bought home a 94 SWB Safari 4.2 Factory Turbo, auto, with 237,000 on the clock.

It doesn't have many other additions yet apart from an ECB Nudge/bull bar combo that doesn’t actually look all that solid for jacking off. So I have a bit of thinking to do in terms of tyres, bars, electrics etc.

I’ve lurked here for a while so I do feel I know some of you already, and hope I don’t make too much of a pain in the arse of myself asking questions.

Cheers

Foster

Welcome to the forum Foster.

My 1st Patrol was a 94 4.2 non-turbo'd wagon. Brough it in Christchurch (my home town) and never looked back. I used to have a 2.7TD Nissan Mistral (the prado look-a-like) when I was living in Queenstown but sold it when I moved back home. The only thing I didn't like about the Mistral was its narrow wheelbase. You will no-doubt know a lot of the terrain and tracks around Queenstown, Arrowtown, Cromwell etc... the mistral wen over all of that when i was out hunting as well.

Is your safari a hi-top roof or low top? Seems to be the difference in badging between NZ and here. mine was a low roof but still badged as a safari.... never got a reason as to why.

Anyway, you have a great base on which to make a spectacular weapon.... no doubt the guys n girls will give you any advice you need.

Enjoy.

Tim
