Hello people, I just have join to this group because I'm a Nissan Patrol fan. I used to have an old Patrol 260 but it was sold to a guy from Sweden. Now I'm buying a 2003 Y61 but I have a few questions:
Does the 3.0td AT trans has the rear diff locked?
Is the rear Diff the H260?
Can I go off roading with AT? I use to have manual trans and works great on muddy conditions.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum mate, feel free to ask any questions.

You should get a better response by asking any questions in a different section as a lot of people don't read the intro sections.

Welcome Toby,

1/ Yours will be different specs to the Australian Patrols, but we should be able to help with your questions.

2/ Yes - the Auto is great for Off Roading.

3/ You can most probably confirm if you have a factory diff lock by locating the Diff Lock Switch on the dash ( if you have one ) or by looking at your vehicle manual. The other way is to look at the back of the diff from the back bumper, as the Factory DiffLock has a cylindrical shape device with a hose coming off it, on the Diff Pumpkin.

4/ Rear Diff sizing will be confirmed by your Compliance Plate under the bonnet ( well that is where it is here )

For example:

FS5R50B HG39

This means the following

FS5R50B - This is the gearbox spec fitted. Common across all GU's.

HG - This indicates the rear differential fitted. HG indicates a H233B rear diff, with a 233mm crownwheel.

39 - This indicates the diff ratio fitted at the factory. This number is rounded to 2 decimal places so is not completely accurate. In this case it is a 3.900 diff ratio.

FS5R50B HH41

This means the following

FS5R50B - This is the gearbox spec fitted. Common across all GU's.

HH - This indicates the rear differential fitted. HH indicates a H260 rear diff, the major difference is that it is a 260mm crownwheel and a different rear housing to accommodate it.

41 - Indicates the diff ratio fitted at the factory. This number is rounded to 2 decimal places so is not completely accurate. In this case it is a 4.111 diff ratio.

Welcome to the forum! Definitely a good place to test out your theories on what to do to improve your rig (and what NOT to do!).

As happygtu has pointed out the best way to check if you have a rear locked diff (besides the button on the dash) is to
look at the back of the diff from the back bumper, as the Factory DiffLock has a cylindrical shape device with a hose coming off it

Let us know what you want to know about and I'm sure we can point you in the right direction!
