Hi guys,

I'm not sure if this has been covered or not - I haven't seen any posts but I am only new to the forum. I have a 99 GU Patrol - 4.5ltr. I have installed a double DIN DVD player and was going to install a roof mount flip down monitor for the kids.

My question relates to how difficult it would be to detach the roof lining to run the wiring and the fitting. Is it as simple as unbolting the handles and seat belts and pulling the roof lining to unclip or is there a few hidden surprises I should be worried about?

Has anyone else done a fitting before that would be able to advise on the simplest option?

Cheers,
Paul

If you remove the A pillar mouldings and the centre courtesty light you could use a snake and run wires that way.
Don't forget to pop over to the intros as well just some thing the forum asks of us all

Welcome aboard mate.......... I'm no sparky but pretty sure the monitor would just be fitted to the existing light mount and the power would be used from there. As far as running the other cables, I'd remove the door trim from the bottom and as you said, run the cables up the B pillar. As far as ease goes, couldnt tell you, I own a GQ.

I like to call it Adult entertainment lol Yeah the screen will be facing the rear.
Had it in my camper but got too creepy with mates looking in through the windows pressed up against the flywire

Hi friends ..!
Its not so simple as you think , there is a great network (http://www.accountants-goldcoast.com.au/bookkeeping/) of wiring and connection after pulling roof ,but you should not worried about it if you have are a electrition. :)

you could fit them in the back of the head rests,
they make covers for them when not in use for security.
They even sell them already fitted in universal head rests.

I've done this, I had to remove the front liner as I was swapping with someone who gave me the monitor, had to remove the centre light, screwed up into the light frame to secure the screen to the roof, it's easier if most of the liner is down to get the wires through, but if you get a coat hanger and straighten it you can run the wires up the pillar, across to the map light console, then use the hanger and feed the wires straight up the middle!

Hey again,

So if you cut the roof out for the base plate, you can mount the base plate to the roof frame. In my case I needed a packing so I used 19mm 200mm wide pine at 30cm long with liquid nails from the board to the roof - that is what the car sound mob told me to do. Took about 15 minutes to install after the liquid nails was dry - (24 hours) and the flip down screen was in, done and finished!

So you glued some pine battens to your roof to except the base plate then screw the monitor to the base plate .
would this work on 15" flip down as well you think??.
I think I would slit the lining and insert pine slats that way, now I know
