I bought an iPad a while ago on special for the qld meet up and didn't realise it didn't come with the GPS receiver which was a fatal mistake with how I wanted to use it.

Mapping and of course the you4wd app.

I see you can get a plug in GPS receiver and just curious if anyone has done this and did it work?

I assume it plugs into the apple port?

That would also suck because you can't charge it when using GPS which will be the main power consumption operation too.

You can get bluetooth adaptors which is the way to go. I did heaps of research on the same thing because I made the same mistake as you did. I ended up buying an iPad with GPS off eBay used for something ridiculous like $80 and selling my old one for $350 or something.

Get a Bad Elf GPS receiver, goes straight into the USB / Charge port - works like a treat

Yeah I just wanted to use it on long trips and not have to keep unplugging to charge that's all...the Bluetooth one would be ideal.
