when I drive forward, and look in the mirror I can see behind me
but
when I am reversing, I cannot see forward in the mirror

Classic!

Welcome to the forum mate. I think we may need a few more details.....

Is the problem only when reversing? Do the mirrors reset to a previously set or neutral position when reverse is selected?

I say invest in a reversing camera. I didn't realise the newer models do the old drop the LHS mirror in reverse trick like the old Statemans used to do.
