I tow a 24' caravan 3200kgs loaded, would a bigger intercooler help? bigger turbo? or as suggested diesel\Gas injection?

What is your towing capacity?
The leaf ute is 2500kg, yes that's right 2 1/2 tonne.
This mob

make a bolt on supercharger for the 4.2 TD engine, ideal for towing with good boost at low revs.
Their site is a shocker, can not find the supercharger, its got a photo of it in the banner thing.
From memory it gave 15psi plus boost at 1000rpm. Have no idea what else has to happen to make it all work.

I reckon Matt {NN} would be able to put you in the right direction.
Me I would upgrade the radiator, but then again maybe the OE one is ok
for the job, plus fit some gauges EGT and Boost

Welcome to the forum mate. Have you had your wagon dyno'd? to see what its putting out v what the potential output is...
There are several ways to getting more power, (and in this instance it's for towing) so you want power plus economy setup. As Macca has said, one option is to supercharge your 4.2. (I take it it is a TD4.2? Intercooled?) The + are that you get instant power as soon as you put your foot down, the - is that your fuel consumption is higher, and your heads have to be able to take the pressure. Once underway tho, the supercharger tends to work out pretty level with the Turbo.
There are numerous options available. it just depends on how much you want to spend.
Good luck.

Welcome mate, surely the best forum on the net. If you need it, you can get it, if you want to know it, just ask it.
If you want to find it, go to the search bar for a universe of information.
Enjoy the sights and sounds of the greatest show on earth.

Welcome! As mentioned above, make sure you get a Boost and EGT gauge before you tweak any more. You need a baseline for comparison to notice anything being pushed too far.
I'd recommend a performance chip (I'm currently testing one now) and block off the EGR. (look for instructions on this forum or the net. "ZD30 Y61 Reference Document - BW.pdf" contains some general improvements you can make without breaking the budget).

No performance chip for a 4.2 poita, unlike the 3ltr! You can spend big on a bigger turbo td05, cross country intercooler air intake mods and a pump, just depends how much you got to spend, I'd suggest emailing Matt from ufi in a few weeks when he gets back from holidays.

Think you have maxed out you GVM You may need to upgrade it or run the risk.
Putting a lot of pressure on the tow vehicle towing at its maximum all the time.

Hello, Im Gazco2, have only done a 3" exhaust and slight tweek on fuel pump, what now for best bang for my bucks?
Welcome Gazco,
I have an '03 TD6 wagon. In '09 took it to Mike Vine Turbo in Capalaba, Qld, 3" exh, boost increase 8 to 13 psi, EGR block, new standard injectors and a fan atop the intercooler.
Dyno before and after. 31% power and torque increase. No gauges fitted. About $2500.
Dragged a heavy campertrailer for 13000 k's ( Kimberly, Tanami etc.) 33" tyres, no problems. Had nothing done since and still going strong, touch wood.
Out of interest, tow ball download 200kg, braked capacity 3500kg for GU 4.2td6 manual wagon.
Cheers,
Mal
