I read with great interest on the HPDiesel web site that their upgraded intercooler gives a 15% increase in power. Thats quite a bit, has anyone got one fitted, and can comment on the power increase claim?
15% for an intercooler is quite good.

cheers

I have just fitted the diesel smart fully tigged OE intercooler and has made a big improvement
15% I'm not sure about but egts are down and constant now, Plus I'm a very happy camper now.
Pressure tested to 60psi and warranty. one less thing. BTW mine is a Di
Do you have a link??

sounds like it might be a good improvement to do.
Wonder how the ZD30 would go if you did the EGR block, big exhaust and a chip as well, should be quite the beast!

I have all that done and more ,,,,,Beast ,, don't think is the term I would use "spritely" would cover it.
one thing you do get is power to overtake at 100kph. I run the Dp chip on 5 for towing my camper.
Exhaust is 3" all the way, 12/100 around town and 14/100 towing sitting on 110kph

If your after a tig welded IC for a Di or Cr give diesel-smart a PM.
Best value for money IC on the market today, IMO bigger as well
than an OE IC.
Its only a 3ltr and never going to be a rocketship but heaps I can do myself to
make it as efficient as I can, with what I have

For 13hunge you'd better get 15% I just put on a new IC with the larger core, not a CC or HPD cooler but it may not difference what so ever to performance. TBH my EGT's haven't changed either. They were pretty low to start with. But I haven't had a change to really test it out yet...

I call this better value for money ==> NEW NISSAN GU PATROL ZD30 3L UPGRADE ALLOY INTERCOOLER (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-NISSAN-GU-PATROL-ZD30-3L-UPGRADE-ALLOY-INTERCOOLER-/171189656330) even though that wasn't OP question. Much better proposition and cheaper than "second hand" remanufactured Diesel Smart units.

Back to the original question, HPD coolers are much bigger, have a fan underneath (a bit of issue with those lately) and come with replacement piping/hoses/clamps from the turbo to the cooler.
If you are replacing OEM unit and not under financial constraints than it is worth to consider.

Cheers

I just got one of those coolers to see what they're like....
In my opinion, just mine, fans on the IC's are a waste of time unless you do a lot of hi revving, low speed driving. I have read of too many people saying they fitted the fan and I did sweet FA so they removed it. Plus I think at speed it will hamper air flow through the IC fins, even when the fan is underneath. To what extent? Buggered if I know... I would love to be able to have a CC cooler aswell to compare against the two...
Also if I was not under any financial constraints I would have ripped out this engine and put a TD42Ti in :)

Can't see any difference between that and a DS IC, except I did a change over.
Price wise I got mine a tad cheaper than that, but certainly a good price for a tigged IC.
Plus DS supply a new "O" ring

@ RUMCAJS what do you mean 2nd hand the DS cores are new and slightly larger than OE
all they have re- used are the end tanks and from what I hear are better than the thin after market ones.
Cores are around $100 to buy and I don't think there is $300 plus of welding required.
Its an item you need so the price goes up Typical of money hungry PPL
$250-$300 would be a fairer price plus you would sell more eh

*Nissan OEM replacement intercooler is ~$1200 the same POS as the one failing in the car.
*Diesel smart remanufactured welded intercooler with second hand tanks is $595 + $250 core return.
*Ebay unit is $380, no core return, all new stuff apparently including Nissan OEM "O" ring.

Now the technical details; what is better 20 tubes at 66 mm wide or 15 tubes at 75 mm(the picture of broken vernier caliper measuring the core just priceless)?

The winner is: Ebay unit.

Yes, for the argument point, the core is $100 or even less but that still makes no sense in case of DS intercooler cause they're even getting the end tanks for nothing so indeed it is them who charge $300+ for welding those second hand tanks on to Chinese new cores.

This whole intercooler biz is a racket.

Cheers
