Just wondering how many are going to the Tip [Cape York] next year.
Dying to see what difference there is since 1983. I would probably be
leaving around late August. Not sure of route up but via Birdsville wouldn't be out of the question,
as a couple of mates could tick that off the bucket list.

Surely something on my bucket list but I don't see it happening for me anytime soon unfortunately. If I were to go I would take the long way around. Up through the middle, into Kakadu and across and up.

I have been so anxious about this trip It's just not funny.

I have had many of convos with the misses to come along but I just don't think we can do it with a 3 month old baby.

I have the old "She'll be right attitude" but the rooster has the last say with the children. Which I respect being a gun ho young male...LMAO

However, I will be there gents!!!!

Better hurry seems the machinery could be moving out in the next few years and it won't be dirt. People are doing it in soft roaders too

Kill Joy! No good news there my friend! Are they Really going to seal the road? Wow! That would be sacrilege! It's a Mecca! Generations of Australians have been making that pilgrimage annually. Just can't believe they would make such a poor management choice!

Maybe poor for the 4wd fan but for qld tourism the more people who can access it the more money they can make which is apparently better for our economy. I don't agree with it. I will still be doing it as soon as I am able too while it's still mostly unsealed.

A very good friend of mine did it in September this year and his words were its like a highway both in the speed you can travel and the amount of people using the road.

Yeah. It's unfortunate that they plan on sealing all the way up the PDR. The have apparently already approved sealing all the way to Weipa

I was up there this year again and it is getting busier and busier and the road condition is getting better and better since my old man has been going there since the early eighties.

Yeap, they sealed parts of the development road while we there for a week. Was dirt when we went up but sealed on the way down. Talk was it would be sealed by 2015 BUT maybe just wishful thinking by the locals. No issues for a 2wd or a even a Jeep to get to the top while we were there. Recall Cuppas mate took a mobile home bus to the top this year.
They won't seal the OTT so you'll get at least 100 ks of good stuff.

Edit: just read GU CAMPERS post he was part of our group.

I need more than 100ks of good stuff to drive that far specially for a road a rav4 can manage.
I might have to get up there sooner then later before it turns to sh!t.

The only actual real 4wding is the telegraph track. But then again it's not really a challenge. Except some of the crossings

I was planning to do it in 2015 as my annual leave already has other commitments in 2014. Sounds like I may need to reevaluate my priorities.

@ MR would love to do the Simmo, and realise the Tip may soon be for all, last time I was there the Wilderness lodge had just closed, Sept '83
and we camped right on the beach at the walk to the tip. great memories, all Gunshot tracks were doable seems the army use the area for jungle training
or did back in 1983. If all goes well next year I'll be doing the Simmo for sure, and see what happens with the Tip, but sometimes things change quickly.
and its out of our hands.

In 83 2 ppl did it in front of us in a XY falcon wagon and a F100 2WD, they made it into Bamaga 3 days after us.
we Left them at the Delhunty creek crossing

@ Coiled got stuck on the big hill on the Crebe track for 3 hrs after some rain and ended up walking it. NOT happy Jan lol
young and fit then

I'm doing it in 2015 with the convoy RLI is putting together for the ANZAC celebrations. Sealed or not it will be a great adventure.

There are plenty of tracks up there, check with GU CAMPER he did the CREB, OTT twice and Frenchmans this year (plus a couple of extra side tracks). The OTT is iconic but not the only track up there, plenty of places to test everyone.

I'm going up early June with a 3 - 4 month old. They're easy when they are little. Feed, sleep, nappy, then repeat.
