Hi All,
finally some time to introduce myself. My name is Steve and I have a 1996 GQ RD2.8T Patrol.
I used this car to take my family across the Gun-barrel Solo, continuing up to Cape Le Veque, across the Gibb to The Gulf and up to Cape York - Completing the Telegraph. All the time towing a modified Jayco Finch - 4 '' extra lift and a complete internal rebuild. Never had a single problem the whole time. The car was a pleasure to drive - and yes she was at times underpowered, but low range usually got us up or out.
The Patrol - had a 2" lift kit. Internally we created our own version of the black widow draw/fridge system only it cost $200.
The car now has 290 000km and I have only just put her back on the road after a complete engine rebuild. That included rebore, pistons, cam shaft worked, oil pump upgraded, all bearings and seals, and finally a new turbo. Took me 3 months to complete the task - but she's back ad that's what counts.
Initial reason for the rebuild was that I had a leak in the cooling system that I couldn't trace. turns out number 6 had caused a weakness in head gasket and this was pressurising the coolant forcing it out the surge tank..
The car is the envy of my company colleagues and yes it has had to tow a Troopy out of a wombat hole, much to my bosses disgust.
I use this forum to solve many issues - and look forward to now participating..
Cheers to all and keep up the great work you al do
