hi guy's i got a ORICOM UHF058 in my patrol, every time someone talks it crackles, i have swapped the cable and antenna but no good, i have hid's next to the antenna i don't think that would cause the problem. what could it be, i had an old shitty one that worked realy good until i put this one in.

I think you might need to check to see if it is the HID'S, as it may not interfere with the old unit but may with the new.
You mentioned that you fitted new aerial and lead. Did you run them in the exact same line as the old.

I had interference for the on board CPU and I had to move the unit to the other side and now is all clear.

Does it crackle if the other radio is close by?
Does it crackle with the car turned off and everything else turned off?
Is it a static noise or a buzzing noise?
Do you run it through an external speaker?
Where is it powered from?

Cheers, Tony.

Avery time it receives - it has a crackle.

As per TPC's questions:-

Does it crackle if the other radio is close by?
Does it crackle with the car turned off and everything else turned off?
Is it a static noise or a buzzing noise?
Do you run it through an external speaker?
Where is it powered from?
What sort of range does it have?

TPC is hinting at a Antenna / cable or power problem

You may need to earth the antenna back to the battery,
make sure antenna is tight as well

Do you have adjustable squelch? try trimming that up, the only time the hid's may have an effect is if they are on , if you have a local telecommunication, 2 way shop drop by and ask them to do a VSWR on you 2-way, plug an external speaker into the back if there's a socket and see if it still crackles it could just be a dodgy speaker, does it crackle at lower volume settings
