hi guys.. patrols are my dream rig and finally I am able to have one few weeks ago. i owned several honda cars before but nissan is really new to me. i would like to ask regarding the clutch/brake concern because i am not sure if this is normal since i am exploring this truck. there are canisters that are connected to the brake and clutch booster which is totatlly different from my previous cars.

while i was at the parking yesterday, i tried pumping the brake pedals thrice or more while my left foot is pressing the clutch pedal to the floor. I noticed that on my third or fourth press on the brake pedal, the brake light/emergency brake light blinks in the gauge cluster and my left leg that presses the clutch pedal slowly pushes upwards and feeling the clutch pedal harder.

i dont know if this is normal/acceptable or what are the things that i need to check first?

G,day, noggy. Please slip on over to the introductions, say hello and tell us about your rig. What engine have you got in your patrol? Depending on which set up you have, as far as I know, the clutch and brake work boosters work off the engine vacuum or via a vacuum pump mounted on the alternator. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will be able to assist you.
Cheers, mudnut.

hello, mudnut.. I am Paul from Philippines. I just recently acquired LWB Y60 with TD42 non-turbo diesel engine. that is one of my concerns though i have some other stuffs to check like those leaks from differential, transmission, transfercase, secondary clutch, power steering pump and the like.. I can appreciate if other experts or those who have ideas could share it so that I can also fix this on my patrol.. Thank you Mudnut!

G'day Noggy welcome aboard mate. Seems very strange the brake and clutch have their own master cylinders so should not affect each other

Weird one, the only thing I can think of For the pedal forcing up is maybe a pressure build up in the vacume system.

Not sure if all patrols have vacume assisted brakes and clutch but mine is a 91 And does.
In the engine bay your master brake and clutch cylinders may have big black round canisters between them and the wall.
If so this is the vacume assistance setup.
With the car running pull the small black hose Off if one of the canisters and block it with your finger.
It should build up a vacume and make a small pop when you remove your finger.
Try this first..

Do you notice you clutch hard to press down sometimes when braking??

Is it a petrol? If so you have less vacuum at low revs. That makes the pedal harder to push down, rev the engine and see if it improves

Could be a booster fault.
