The 2 wire sender Early GQ's is good for petrol and diesel without low level light
And 3 wire later models is for added benefit of a low level light on dash board.
5 wire is + in-tank efi pump .
"think that right"

My light works, but level sender is faulty.
The contacts on card have worn through, as a result no signal is sent to fuel gauge cluster.

My question is,the 2 and 3 wire units are Identical apart from 3rd wire for it's light output ?.

I'm looking to purchase a 2 wire sender and use it's good float etc onto my 3 wire sender.
And save About $80+ in the process.
:santa:

Electrically the resistance values of the fuel senders are the same.

I'm not sure if the mounting of the float arm and variable resistor are the same. I think they would be.

Your not really going to know until you get both units side by side. I think you should be able to make it work.

I wrote float etc, not sure 100% what all would call the componites involved.
I think the board that has the electrical contacts is the part that actually needs replacing.
I had pulled the tank out a couple yrs back to repair leaky sender seal.
Noticed the board had worn through contacts on bottom half, and thought board, card, was the easy cheaper fix.
(Humm possibly even reposition card left or right a little to fresh contact area ).
I'll check My Ford manual for resistance specs.

Ahh, Not sure what you mean!

Thought the sender would only have 1 part to check for resistance the board/card, low level light is the other little round unit attached to pick up tube, didn't intend to replace that bit.
Ohh you mean physical shape?.
cheers

It's the same thing and the resistance values are the same for the Patrols so as long as you can physically make it fit it will work.

It might be easier to replace from the board/card down including the float.

You shouldn't have to touch the low fuel warning sensor.
