To start with I have a 2005 GU4 ZD30

I change my fuel filter a few weeks back and it has been fine.

This morning I started my car it ran for a few seconds like shit and then stalled.

Had a look and found that the water sensor at the bottom of the filter had dislodged partially and well no more fuel in the line.

Any way I went and bought a genuine filter now and the water sensor fits 100time more securely now.

Any way filtered it all back up and used the air gun down the feed line to pressure rise the system and fill the filter.

But still can not get the system to prime.
It's as if the fuel keeps flowing back down to the tank.

Any ideas?

Regards

Try filling the filter before installing givea couple of pumps then try to start
if it fires pump to help draw the fuel back up the line

also with running the engine you have air in the lines passed the filter and might need to take off at pump and prime till no air in it
this can also be a problem

The main problem im having is trying to get the fuel to stay in the fuel line from the tank.
The filter is full and with the line taken of to injector pump I still cant get a flow of fuel coming out of the filter.

Silly question but where my car died is on a slope with the fuel tank being lower.
Would this be causing me dramas?

Sounds like an air leak somewhere look in rear wheel arch on top of chassis .
It gets very tight there and could have cut fuel line.

Being an air leak would this mean that fuel would be leaking?
I can't see a leak anywhere

G'day Shaun,
how'd you go???
I'm coming in late but it seems that if the fuel filter was filled and then the fuel 'disappeared' it would/should be due to either
1) draining back into the tank, or
2) leaking onto the ground somewhere.
No leaks on the ground? I'd be looking at each and every line/tube to and from the filter right back to the tank for a connection which is allowing air in. Don't know if there is a non return valve in the system but I suspect not. Reckon the air leak may be either on top of the filter or on one of the tubes to or back from the motor side.
Let's know thanks

Turns out it was purely the primer hand pump on top of the filter.
Nissan replaced that and away she went.

It must have been dying cause it feels like it starts a lot better now aswell.

Thanks for that Shaun.
My old GQ had a fairly solid mechanical pump type primer but the new '08 GU has a somewhat poxy rubber squeeze type which could well perish or split.
Fixed anyway
cheers
