G'day everyone
I've decided to buy myself a luggage bag for the roof rack. This one from rhino rack seems to tick all the boxes

Has anyone got one of these and if so what do you think of it? Are they as waterproof as they say they are?
It's gotta be better than ropes and tarps.
Cheers Paul.

My nephew had something that looks like that but held its shape when open, the opening was from the side. It was canvas with a frame inside it. It worked very well.
I have a bushranger and dust gets in not had it wet but I reckon it would leak, a mate has a MSA and he reckons it is great and does seal out water and dust.
They are very handy for sure

Looks a good start. If it is a soft bag and collapses to whatever you have in it you'll need a couple of points either end to tie the ends down or it will balloon up.
But apart from that it does look good..

I have one, it is water proof, and dust proof. biggest issue is it needs a bit of a load / weight in it as it will slide back even well strapped down. When I went up north coast earlier in the year, I had to stop a couple of times and pull it back forward and retighten the straps. All in all though a good investment.

We had a bag made up by the local transport covers outfit. They custom made it to the same size as the basket out of the material they use for curtain sides, with a zip round 3 sides that was covered by 100mm flap that velcoved down. To secure it they attached tie in points and shortened up some ratchet straps for me.
It was fantastic keep out dust, water and prying eyes but in the end some low life who couldn't be bothered undoing some straps and a zip cut it up to see what was in there. We now have a pod and half basket for some trips and a full basket and dry bags, barrels and waterproof hard cases for more adventurous trips

Instead of the straps is it possible to use shackles or turnbuckles to prevent it moving forward.??
Great piece of kit BTW

I ended up getting the rhino one ordered it today so we will see how good it is when it gets here. I'm sure it won't be as good as what AB comes up with but I will probably be too old to get stuff on the roof by then anyway. Lol

I think someone would probably have invented and perfected time travel before AB comes up with a roof top bag lol

Got my rhino rack bag today $300 on eBay ordered it on Monday and it was here today Sydney to Perth that was bloody fast.
Anyway it looks to be a good bit of gear double flaps with Velcro over the zip so no chance of dust or water getting in.
3 and a half weeks to go then we are off on 10000+km trip so that should be a pretty good test for it.

steer clear of ridge ryder bags - I had 2 of them and they leak like a sieve and fill up with dust. Ended up with 2 swimming pools on the roof of my troll

Just finished our big trip 10000 kms with the roof bag loaded up and I am very impressed with the rhino rack bag. Had a few days of heavy rain with not a drop of water inside. It straps down nice and taught the only thing I doing was the front strap is a little bit to far back from the front of the bag so it can tend to lift the front a bit in the wind. What I did was put a ratchet tie down across the front which was also handy to pull the front down a bit lower which may or may not help with aerodynamics.
I highly recommend anyone looking at getting a roof top bag look into one of these.
That is of course until AB pulls his finger out and comes up with a better one :);)
