View Full Version : how to fix no introductions

my third 256
13th November 2013, 07:45 AM
why is it so many new people ask questions first and no intro
surely it can be put in place that an intro be put up before questions asked
looking ok but questions a no no
no intro no to questions
come on moderators or program writers( AB)
maybe you could tackle this problem
it seems many new members cant read the instructions tobe a new member
rant and rave over lol

looked but never requested they pop over to intros first then post a question.

You mean make it compulasry in the programming ?

I think there is a notice about, i guess people dont read the whole forum, and so just sign up and go for the 25 !

While were programming , finding a way to stop the 15 pointless thread "grave digs", all with useless comments (just so they can get to the manuals) would also be great IMO (lol)

yes compulsary to sign up
increasing no of posts will only increase worthless posts
i like the idear of 3 months probation
or even 1 month then posts can be checked to se what their activity is like
or could sell them and moneys to the forum if they want to bypass the qualificarion posts or qualification period

Of you join on the cp, as soon as you join it prompts an intro I think.
If not when you get transferred to the forum it is in big red letters "read here first "in the intro section heading.

But if you join via tappa there is nothing.
But also on tappa you can't see people's post counts. So unless you check the persons profile you don't know.

It's been discussed before and most do the right thing.
I myself quite enjoy the rat race. Watching them climb the post count and they get to 24 and bam. They cop a slapping from the ban stick.. Lol

Im pretty sure there is a way of making it so if you have anything less that 5 posts you cant make a new thread other than in the introduction section.

X2 , id rather see that mandatory before a intro actually, i mean, if you need to remain sooooo "hidden" ,you cant even post what "state" you live in, then WTF are you doing posting on the internet anyway ?

And NO, a "drunken state" does not count ! :hpfredgeorge1:

That seems like a pretty good idea on the surface Mike.....I like it.....

The only thing is it will pad up the intro posts a fair bit ..... maybe possibly two posts, your own Intro, and one Welcome .... then you are on your way

i'm not sure I agree. I'm not sure I see why intros need to be compulsory.

If someone looks up a question on google to fix something, and get sent here, and then "must" post a intro? What if they don't want to be part of the community, but just an answer?
If people want to join in, and become part of the community, sure, they would then introduce themselves. not because they have to, but because they want to.
Only downside I really see by it not being compulsory, would be some peeps won't be able to post 20 odd reply welcomes in 3 minutes to get up post counts?

I prefer 2 see an intro so I know hopefully where they're from us a lot don't put a location in when signing up and what they are driving, I'm not overly fussed if people don't want to post up an intro before asking questions or selling, but an intro is what Andy has requested when it comes to downloading manuals, so if there is no intro and they are posting crap just to get a manual the ban stick will come out.

Peace out people its beer drinkin time :)

Yep, agree completely.

Some guy googles for an answer, comes on here, asks a question, gets the benefit of the knowledge and experience of members and then buggers off. That is downright rude.

It's what makes us human.....we are all different. I'm not fussed what people do, I have my own standards and the only one accountable to them.

That's a bit different.

If you were just asking someone in the street what the time was you wouldn't reveal information about yourself.

Most people who are asking a genuine (non manually spammers) will start off with a polite hello.

Trust me nothing annoys me more then someone who rudely asks question and expects everyone to jump for them.

If it's not compulsory to post an intro then their not even breaking any rules.

unfortunately, you cannot stop rude or ignorant people
and this issue is, I am sure, a head ache for those in-control.
there are some forums (a patrol club site in UK I went to, you have to Join - and it was £15.00 to join, before you could open the Forum up) that charge to join and access the info.......

maybe when people want access to the Manuals, they have to pay money - via Paypal - and if they have over a certain amount of USABLE posts, not spam, they get the money returned.......
if you dont like that, pay the $10 off Fleabay for a disk.....

my thoughts

I think that's just plain rude and childish in itself........ Sorry but if one thing gets my goat, that's it..... If you can help a person out just bloody help, instead of just saying "you must post up an intro". It's not compulsory to put up an intro, it's the polite thing to do yes but not compulsory. As I said in another thread from a guy asking tyre advice yesterday...... It's a really good way of putting folk off the forum very quickly. Very much the way a certain other forum responds..........
Stop acting like feckin whining little children and just get back to the fun friendly relaxed forum it is.

As one who came to this place on the back of a google search when I first bought my truck I have some thoughts on this.

I came here looking for the manuals and some answers, and guess what I got both, when I saw the quality of people on this forum I stuck about and then posted an intro and have shared personal information about myself.

I just read the thread from the above link and we should all be disgusted in ourselves and how anal this forum is becoming. The OP asked a reasonable question and got crap, why would he bother coming back.

I get sick of seeing people ask a question and get the standard "use the search feature response". Some times when you do that you have to troll through 20 pages of waffle and shite to get that answer. If you don't know the answer or don't want to be helpful stay the hell out and let someone who is willing to help do so.

Yes it is nice when someone tells us a bit about themselves, but I don't see why it must be compulsory. I for one get sick of having to troll through 3 pages of intros when I hit the what's new button. Sometimes I just want to catch up on what's happening. And I find it funny that the people who are so pent up about intros don't even have the decency to finish a post with their name so we know even that most basic piece of information.

So get over yourselves and your petty hangups and let's get this forum back to what it is supposed to be about, people who love patrols catching up with and helping like minded people.
