engine light on dash

hi can anyone help with why engine light on dash keeps coming on and subsequent loss of power or limp mode with it ? its an 03 wagon auto with zd-30 motor (275k) it used to reset after engine shut off and batt. disconect but is on all the time now and is blowing a fair bit of white smoke.

Hi Jase possible to jump over to the intros first before asking questions,
Just something the forum asks of us all, no harm done but you'll get a better response.
as for the problem I'd be checking your fuel filter {change it}, Others will be by after your intro,,,,,,TD
Do you have NADS fitted yet??

thanks TD. my first time ever on an online forum.no to NADS at this stage. will do filter. now i will try to find intros

you could try cleaning the maf sensor
use the search box top right type in what you want and press magnifying glass

thanks. have cleaned maf sensor and ordered ultragauge. hope it works. but i have justy read chapter 6 (w-shop manual) and think i will try to bring up pcm fault codes manualy and try to match them to obd11 fault code list in manual. sketchy i know.
