Hi all....have been through all the threads regarding this but could not find info associated with what is the best manual hub to put on ?
I am not going to just remove the auto side of it to make it free , ..prefer to just replace completely
I am about to remove the auto hubs on the GQ and replace them with manual ones , and was wondering what manual hubs people have used and happy with .
Have seen AVM etc on EBay and know nothing about them ?...but want to get what would be the strongest and most reliable manual hubs ....and do it once only other than general servicing
understanding no one has a crystal ball ...
cheers

If you can get ahold of some stock units, these are best. I think there are 2 different versions of the AVM hubs, one is stronger than the other, but don't quote me on this.

i had avm hubs on mine when i bought it, the weaker ones i think, and they worked fine, but the bolts holding them on seized and i had to cut them off as i couldnt access the 6 allen key bolts that hold it to the hub (avm ones have 2 sets of bolts, unit to hub spacer thing, and spacer thing to hub). I bought a set of the factory ones and they have been great. Easy to get off, simple enough to pull apart if need be. But the best part was that they are cheaper.

I have AVM HP (the strong ones) on my GU IV, they work fine, took 5 mins a side to fit, no need to even take off the wheels.

Have the auto hubs failed????
You can always do what I have done and just removed the auto mechanism out of the hubs and turn them into manual ones

No "GQ"..they are still ok...as I said , I dont want to do that , I just want to replace them completely...,obviously not the most economical way to go....I am happy to get out and lock them and from what I have read in the threads , it seems there is potential problems with the autos dis-engaging ...just dont want that , although I dont really have any experience with autos at all .
cheers

But why replace something thats not broken, yes the auto hubs dis-engage when reversing but that is how they are designed. If you're happy to get out and lock them in than do just that, they won't disengage if they are locked in manually.

Maybe I have misread things ?...yeh ok...I was assuming it happened across the board with them and thats why people swapped them out ....cheers

I don't think so when they are manually locked in, someone else might be able to jump in and shed some light.
I haven't yet to see any proof that the manual hubs are any stronger than auto's anyway
